      Rotors turned into hubs

I'm looking at either making or buying a set of front hubs to do an ls1 front brake swap on my g body with the stock spindles.

I'm curious if there has been any actual failures of a front rotor turned into a hub? I have heard a few people questioning the strength of them but haven't seen/heard of any failures. To me they seem perfectly safe if done correctly and not cracked when pressing in longer studs.

      Thanks,

      Jason

      Rotors turned into hubs

I did it on the front of my 82 TA. Turned the stock rotors down to use as a hub, drilled holes and bolted on a rotor "ring".
Been to some autocross and road race events in the last 9+ years it's been done, no problems ever.

I was going to do it but I would have had to space the bracket way out to get the abutment bracket to line up with the rotor. It was over a 1/4"

Would have worked but it is kind of a cobbled together way of doing it.

Assuming the OE hub/rotor design was adequate to being with, removing the friction surface from the hub shouldn't negatively impact the strength or reliability of the hub in any way. As you noted, cracks around the wheel studs seem to be fairly common, however those tend to be more the fault of the person doing the machining and setting the tolerances than the hub itself.
