      Starting my build

      Hey All

New here and looking for a some opinions, I have recently picked up a 68 Camaro that is has been mainly restored. I would like to take it to the next level but don't want to tear it completely down because I would like to still enjoy it. So here is what I would like to do and the order I was thinking

      1. Suspension - ride tech 4 link system. I don't plan at this point doing any track time but want it handle. Car already has disc brake conversion (later upgrade to Wilwood). Add new steering box.

      2. Tire and Rims - don't want to do a mini tub at this point but is something to consider later down the road.

      3. Trans - currently I have a th350 and was thinking of going to a 700r4 would like to be able to cruise on the highway.

      4. Motor - this is going to take sometime to do, currently I have a 383 that runs strong but I would like to go to the LS376/525 connect n cruise in the future.

you are kind of lucky that you have a first gen Camaro, because almost every upgrade part is available. if I were you you i would start looking for simple bolt on parts that help with handling, but don't go too cheap on it because you might end up doing it twice and costing even more in the end. I do agree with some kind of overdrive, lots of options there- gear vendors, 700r4, 4l60e, ect. there is nothing wrong with an old school sbc, maybe think about aftermarket fuel injection probably cheaper than an LS. as far as wheels and tires go I know you are very limited in the front (from what some friends say) someone on here might have a better idea on that. For rear wheels there are backspace options that will allow you to run decent size tires.

Keep the current engine and drive train intact for now and concentrate on suspension mods. If I were you I would be looking seriously at a complete ridetech bolt on suspension. Take a look at the 48 hour Camaro and you will get a good idea of what is possible with the right combination of bolt on parts.

      Thanks

JD I'm with ya on concentrating on the suspension, going to go with ridetech level 2 coil over system with muscle bars and tru turn set up. I think this will keep me satisfied for a while.
