      Im Going Nuts

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had an operation back on the 12th of Sept. the uerter, tube from my kidney to bladder, was constricted causing the kidney to drain slowley and basicslly back up and swell. verry painful. they cut out the constricted part and put it all back together. luckily they could do it orthoscopically so i only have 4 scars in my belly. ive been out of work since then. im starting to feel good but am not supposed to do much. i dont go back to see the doc till the 26th of oct. this is driving me crazy. worst part is i pulled the rear outta my 67 to reset the pinion angle the weekend before surgery and ran out of gas for the welder half way through welding the perches back on. so its been sitting on jack stands for almost a month now. tomorrow im gonna try to finish welding. but other then that im going nuts.

I know the feeling. Wasn't supposed to do anything for a couple of months after getting my gall bladder removed, hated to just sit and not do anything.

Funny, I had the EXACT same problem, but this was in '93 or thereabouts. They went in through my back, I now have a 7" x 1/2" scar, mainly due to the fact that they attempted the surgery 3 times, and in the process cut nerves and also created life-long scar tissue surrounding the cut area, which has apparently effecting my back. Good stuff!

I went from 175 lbs to 105 lbs in alittle over 3 months while I recovered in bed. My bench press weight went from 225 to not even being able to hold up the 45 lb bar when I went back to school. This is when I read my first book about welding. Do something constructive.

Oh, this also happened to be RIGHT after I got my driver's license. You think you're going crazy? Try being a 16 year old with a license and not being able to drive.

luckilly i was off the vicodin with in a week of comming home from the hsopital so i could drive as much as it felt comfortable. A family friend of ours hadit done when he was in 7th grade, hes around 45-50 now and he has a 1/2 inch scar from his belly button around to the center of his back. he said he has lots of numbness from beig cut. i know i dont have it too bad but being the 1st time being held up in a long time and having stuff to do is enough to drive anyone crazy. i now know why people have jobs. because there is nothing on tv during the day. price is right is always good but after that forget it.

I sympathize... I don't get to work on my car much at all since it's in Tampa Florida and I'm in Seattle Washington. That said, I've found ways to stay "involved" with it. This is one of the reasons I got into online forums and doing photochops and researching modifications, etc. Here are a few things I do:

Created a webpage for my project, which has been a good way to memorialize the whole process.

Read about vintage racing or historical developments of car and manufacturers... I loved the recent articles in Hot Rod about Von Dutch or moonshiners.

Since I hadn't already decided, I learned photoshop to try out different wheel/tire combos and paint schemes. This once eats up lots and lots of time and it's still useful.

I've daydreamed about tons of other project(s) and looked for potential candidates online (eBay, craigslist, local paper). I do up some photochops, look up suspension mods, consider budgets. It's really quite fun.

I love online research, visiting more forums, and finding other folks' cool projects. This gives me lots of good ideas, and I'm always surprised at what I find and others haven't heard about yet.

Sleep. I can never get enough sleep.

Hope this helps, and I hope your back at it soon.

Hang in there. When it's all over, you'll have some really cool scars to show the ladies. Pass your time making up convincing "scar" stories.

"I got this scar serving as a Navy Seal. We were involved in a plot to assasinate the dictator. His safehouse was located just outside of Matagalpa. They knew we were coming........"

Hey man, get better soon. That sounds like an uncomfortable situation to be in, but don't push things.

That said....ya know, if it's ok to sit and read or watch TV, it oughta be ok to sit and weld right? Just get somone to come do the heavy lifting for you (the bottle and such).

yea, the last thing i want to do is push things and be outta work for longer, or even worse need to go back in and operate again. im doing things slowley. last week i went to my bowling league. felt pretty good, im gonna go again tonight. i did weld it back up before lunch. no pain, so after lunch im gonna connect the drive shaft, and bleed the brakes. hopefully i can take it for a ride this weekend.

I'm not as bad as you guys, but almost 6 weeks ago I broke my left foot. I can't drive my 442 'cause I can't push in the clutch. I go to the Dr. today for x-rays to see how I'm doing and see when I can quit wearing this soft cast. I know then that I'll need to start building my strength back up, but who know how soon I'll be able to push in that clutch and bang gears again. This has really sucked.
