      Tire width for 10" wheel?

Hi everyone please excuse the green-ness of the request, but I have searched and have found differing information regarding the minimum wheel width for a 315 series tire. I will be looking to purchase in the near future and would appreciate any help that your expertise can provide. The car is a '68 charger, mini-tubbed with the MP spring relocation kit. I really like they look of the American Racing Torque Thrust D in 18"@ 10"wide and want to put the widest rubber in the back. Tires will be BFG rivals, and while I know that I can fit the 295 on the wheel, I've read that the 315 might fit...

The question is that is it possible to actually fit this 315 series tire on that 10"wheel? ...that would be the smallest wheel that that tire can fit onto. Have any of you done this (I've checked the tire/wheel sizing guide to no specific avail). Would I have any foreseeable problems with this setup, or should I err on the side of caution and stick with the 295?

Any info is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Each tire manufacturer will have specifications for each tire size/style they offer. They will list overall diameter, tread width, section width and recommended wheel width range. Typical rule of thumb is to match the tread width to the wheel width. I would not recommend putting a 315 on anything narrower that a 11" wide wheel. On a 10.0" wide wheel I normally use a 265, 275 or 285mm tire width for optimum contact patch.

      Good luck!

We concur with Formula 43 on their comment. 275 has the most tire choices of the 3 sizes mentioned, but your decision needs to account for overall tire height also.

315 on a 10" is not something we would ever recommend to anyone. We shoot for 11" minimum.

Thank you very much for confirming my thoughts. I was a bit leery when I heard it was possible too. From the BFG website, their 295/35ZR18 99 W will fit a 10" wheel. My wheel wells are in the process of being 'opened' up a bit, both in width and height, but I'll double check the overall height too! ...thanks!

A 295 will fit on rear of a Charger without any mods at all.

I have a 295 mich SS tire on my 19x10 wheel fits great and looks pretty wide. No way going any bigger tho without major bulging. I'm guessing budget is keeping u from going with an 11" wide. Would look awesome if u did so u could fit that 315.
