      66 coupe update

Can't believe I've been working on her as long as I have. Had to take many a break to replenish funds and help family back east, but it looks like I'm finally on the "assembly required" side of the project. It started as a weekend driver thing, but then I got lucky and had a driving experience at Laguna Seca and it completely changed my direction. I also need to thank Mike Maier for his willingness to share info and insight which helped me immensely to select parts and pieces as I moved into a new direction of a steetable autocross coupe and still stay within a realistic budget. The high end tubular front suspension and 4 link 9 inch is way beyond my budget, but I think I've done as good as I can with the money I had.

I started with a 66 coupe bought from the original owner, at a good price, and now I know why. Drove it for a year or two. Eventually dove into the body and discovered the qrtr damage. Ended up replacing the qrtr, trunk, and rear panel over a years period. Completely gutted the car and did all the sheet metal replacement and rust repair. Surprisingly there was very little rust, just allot of sheet metal work. Learned how to weld on this puppy. Strengthened the subframe and added a trac-loc, and SSBC brakes. Had the C4 completely gone through, new clutches, C servo, V/Body, rigid bands, custom built torque converter 2400 stall with 4130 hub. Rebuilt the '68 302, added AFR165, Comp Cams XE268H, Weiand, Canton, and a custom built holley 4150 with all the road course goodies while the car was in paint. The paint finished last week and the interior paint should be done any day. Rear seats are being built as we speak to match the Cerullo's. Have the quick ratio 13:1 steering box. Picking up the panhard and sway bar from Mike as soon as I get the car back from paint. Plan on adding MustangtoFear one piece headliner and 4-pt roll bar. At this point its ASSEMBLY REQUIRED, fingers crossed. I gotta thank all you ladies and gents for your motivation everytime I stopped in this forum.

here's some pic's of the interior parts and pieces... though the pics doesn't reflect it, the interior paint was color matched to the seats. Believe it or not, that isn't Parchment interior, its actually a little darker. Here's the setup for the door panels that are being made, too. The door panel is trimmed in a dark saddle and the dash pad and carpet will match the saddle color.

These are the wheels from billet specialties I was considering in a 17X7 and a 17X8, the rear fenders are rolled and persuaded so a 255 on an 17X8 should fit comfortably. (fingers crossed) I'm open to wheel suggestions if anyone has any. Prefer a brushed grey center, sorry, hate polishing chrome wheels. Trying to steer away from the torque thrust look. Been looking for a light weight wheel, but can't seem to find anything in a 4.75 backspace that isn't $600+ each. Any suggestions?

I forgot the steel hood... I have two hoods, one is the stock piece, the other is all steel with a fabricated cowl to match the cowl off a 2010 mustang with the low nose and angular sides, its only 1.75" tall but looked awesome on the car before it went to paint. Haven't seen it finished yet, but I'm excited to say the least. Sorry, couldn't find myself putting a chevy cowl on a ford mustang, so I decided to make my own.

What about something like this? I was thinking about these for my car but went with bullets instead.

the coupe was delivered on Friday... check this out! Realistically I don't expect to have this on the road and running for another 2-3 months, still awesome to look at! I realize I'm going to catch flack from the VW sign in the background, I'll let my son know. Yes, that is a steel cowl hood I fabricated. Tried to match to lines of the 2010 mustang cowl, not too high, not too square, and matches the front and side lines of the body very nicely. you can see the stock hood in the background in the event I return the car to stock..

just some updates, wasn't happy with the cost of harness bars and roll bars so I decided to build my own bolt in harness bar, roll bar. It breaks down into 4 pieces and can easily be in/out in 10 min. Picked up chassisworks four pt roll bar, 1.75 X .134 wall, added some offroad couplers for the down bars. Here's some pics. Now that's done I can start putting in the hushmat and interior, and ordering the misc interior stuff. And believe it or not, the one piece headliner from MustangstoFear just clears the top of the bar and the radius'.
