      Cam sensor HELP please

'98 LS1 with adapted factory wiring harness......I heard the engine run, and this is the harness out of the same car

Can't figure out my Cam sensor plug.......Here is the plug I have available to go to the sensor--
      I know it's the right plug.....wires are Red-Brn/Wt-Pnk/Blk

But it is indexed wrong.......It seems the plug that goes to the crank sensor will plug into the CAM sensor nicely. I looks like this--

I got a mirrot to look at female part of cam sensor.....it is round with an index just like the crank sensor.....heck--looks like the map sensor too

      HELP me please

That harness ran that engine? Doesn't make sense if that doesn't plug in..
If you're 100% sure those are the correct wires and that's the correct plug, then dremel the relief into the connector & call it a day.

      Well...................(schwartz comment)

the engine was in the car and offered for sale..........I started and drove the car, and made the deal to buy.

I returned a few days later and picked up the engine trans and wiring bundle...........it IS possible I guess that the harness he gave me was NOT the actual one from the car I drove/bought....and it was one he has laying around.......this is a very remote possbiliity since it came with a TON of wiring and it all was F-body

Wait...hold the phone.......................I solved my own problem----------------

Went digging through the pile of wires left from adapting the OEM harness down.....looking for a plug that might have the proper indexing....then it ALL made sense..............there was a female with a male on the other end......I though how stupid that GM made an extention instead of lengthening the wires........NOW i am left wondering why GM made an adapter pigtail from one plug to the other----instead of just putting the RIGHT plug on in the first place!!!

      Glad you solved it.

The Gen IV LS's have a similar extension pigtail on the front of the block from the cam sensor down toward the oil pan. The only thing that makes sense is that it's easier to reach... but they're really not that difficult, lol.
