      Fuel system help

I have a 67 GTO that I am doing an 5.3 L33 turbo build on. I am wandering what fuel tanks are good that wont have starvation/slosh issues. I also dont want the issues i have read about with having to have it over a half tank all the time.

      Fuel system help

The tanks inc tanks are decent, the next step up is to just go with an Aeromotive phantom, then any more than that and you'll want a Ricks Tanks tank with the vaporworx pickups.

      Dale,

Have you ever seen the tanks inc, or aeromotive tank modified to accommodate two in tank pumps? I'm working on a 72 nova and an trying to find an alternate solution to the Ricks Tank because of cost.

I have not.. I have only seen the tanks inc unit with the Aeromotive Phantom.

Aeromotive is releasing their Phantom in tank kit with two 340 pumps. They announced it on their Facebook page a few days ago.

      Thanks for the feedback Dale.

Bonehead - Great news about the dual phantoms. Just what I'm looking for.

Lots of details to come on this. I think they are currently finishing up testing. Larry Larson's S10 has a twin set up in it and it looks like he's done pretty ok with it! Looking at supporting around 1400hp boosted. Also an E85 compatible pump coming. The thing about the twin set up though....you're going to have to watch it. Those pumps should be able to suck the tank dry pretty quick! Better keep it at a safe fuel level.

Is there any information out there about their stealth tanks offering dual pumps? That would be my preference as compared to the phantom setup. I think that's because I'm a bit leary of how well the foam type sump works. I've not heard of any issues though. And your right Larry Larson has seemed to manage okay with it.

You have any thoughts concerns on how well the sump works on the phantom setups?

Aeromotive uses Tanks INC tanks for their complete set ups. I use their Phantom in a Tanks INC tank for my 67 El Camino. Aeromotive didn't offer the Elk tank as a kit, so I bought their Phantom and the Tanks tank.

The new twin set up is the same size hole as the single set up. Its a really tight fit, but it does. As far as the foam basket goes, theres no issues. It works remarkably well. No issues with fuel starvation - that what the kit was designed to prevent. I've totally forgotten it was in my Chevelle. No worries, quiet and care free.

I'm getting ready to do the install on the Elk tank. Will put it up on my blog in a few days.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

I didn't realize aeromotive used tanks Inc tanks. That's good news for me as they just released an efi tank for 3rd gen novas.

Is there a reason you used the phantom pump with the tanks Inc tank? I'm assuming you could have used their stealth pump since the tanks Inc tank is already baffled. Our am I missing something?

Again thanks for the help and good luck with the install !!

I just ordered a phantom for the C-10 we are building, I have heard a lot of good things about this system and spent a good 15-20 minutes with tech support to make sure I got the right kit. May be worth the phone call.. I just called the tech support line on their web site.

Yup! Couple of reasons. I wanted the deeper sump. Its 1" deeper than the stock El Camino tank. I wasn't too worried about getting in between the 5" and 15" that's needed for the foam basket. But having a little more depth was what I wanted. The other thing is simple. I wanted to replace the tank anyway and why not spend the extra $100ish to get the feature I wanted? Its just cool that those are the tanks that Aeromotive uses too.

BTW....I've spent WAY too much time on the phone with Brett, Jon and Jared at Aeromotive. Outstanding "stupid question" support. Cant say enough good things about the service they give and the bad ass products they make!

Looks like I'll have time tomorrow to start the install. Pictures to follow!

Build a surge tank into the top of the tank (ala NASCAR) or build one separate.

On my race car I used a 4 gal vertically oriented tank (could run it almost dry). http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-290110

A half or 3/4 gal surge tank tall and narrow would work the same.
