      Eric's Project "Grifter"

I got myself an RCR SLC.

I decided I wasn't going to dink around any more. I talked with Jeff Schwartz about his ULTIMA and he leaned much more towards the SLC and boy he wasn't kidding, this thing is dang awesome!

I'm super pumped to have the car here. It certainly brought a lot of people out of the neighborhood asking all sorts of questions and taking pics. It does draw a crowd!

I decided I ain't wasting no time. I need to get my car back in the garage before winter, so the goal is the be at the point of having the body back on the car by then... that's a lofty goal, but what the hell.

I have done some insulation but have some left over. Any thoughts on where to put some next?

      Body off:

      Starting insulation:

      Back side:

fuel pumps are in and time to start making hoses!

Dani helped me scrape glue off.. it's a slow process.

So what actually is it. LOL Looks cool as hell.
So is the Camaro now out of the stable?
I did a Google search. I now know what it is. What are your engine plans?

Added some minor things, all stuff that has to get done. Still have yet to find a good way to get the tape residue off without some hassle. Oh well... Maybe it just takes more elbow grease.

Finished brake lines to the calipers. Had to remove the caliper on the rears to get the banjo bolts in, not a big deal.

FInally got her up on jackstands to do some of the more important work:

Master cylinder reservoirs. I was pleasantly surprised at finding pre-drilled holes for these on the drivers side. Made this so dang easy.

I've wanted an SLC ever since I found out it existed when Stacey David built one on Gearz a few years ago. Very cool car.

Keep us up to date on your progress.

      More updates:

Got all the brake lines fitted and attached firmly to the frame. Coolant lines are in place and most of the frame stuff is done, including the fuel system, just a few little things here and there until I can get an engine. W

I will be moving on to the AC unit and install next.

Today just seemed like a good day to work on the body.

The first cut is always the deepest!

My son is finally old enough to really help daddy in the garage, here he is drilling and tapping his very first hole!

Very neat car. I saw prices on their site for some of the cars, but not this one.
      Mind if I ask?

The price is on the site, you have to "build" a car to find out. Starting kits go for $45k and you have to add drive train, tires and shipping.

What a difference a little bed liner can do! Took me the better part of a day, but it looks a hell of a lot better than bare fiberglass. Plus, it will be able to handle rock chips pretty smoothly.

I also painted the inside of the middle section with this stuff as well.

The car got a new nickname, the "Stormtrooper" from some of my friends, hell could be worse... but my god, those guys suck at aiming!

I posted a video of the fuel system for reference if anyone wants/needs it.

Want an easy fix for removing tape residue? Get some DX-330 from your local PPG distributor. Comes in gallons or quarts. Works great for removing anything grease based or wax based as well. Your welcome!

I've given the head lights a rest for a bit as I was getting frustrated with them. I'll attack them another night.

Since then, I've managed to install the E-brake units

      Install the AC unit.

Drill and weld up the steering wheel adapter, mock up the seats for placement and get the e-brake handle situated for final placement when the shifter gets mounted.

I've managed to get one side of lights to fight right with a lot of fiddling with a drill nibbler/grinder attachment. Now, getting those plastic nubs to fit properly... that's another story.

I also figured out the right combination to get rid of the packing tape residue.
Liberal amounts of goof-off, let sit for an hour or more, scrape off with plastic razor repeat if necessary.

Finally, while it looks like i'm just playing making race car noises, i'm actually fitting myself for seat angle, height and distance from roll bar to my head with my helmet.... But mostly race car noises.
