      American Auto Wire Ignition switch

Yesterday afternoon I put the battery in and thought that I would get to hear the car run that I have been working on for the last 2 years. NOT!! So I set about setting my Dakota Digital dash controller. Does not have power. Turn key to acc, off, run, now power to the controller. Yes I have power all the time. Reclick the ignition switch same thing, can not set the controller. no keyed power to the controller. Pulled the ignition out and got the instruction sheet out and made sure that the ignition was wired right. Jumped the keyed wire and the constant hot wire and BOOM! EVERYTHING WORKED. I worked on it and finally dragged the wife out to help me after pulling the fuse box apart and I spent 3 or 4 hours checking everything. Now a normal ignition switch has 4 positions, acc, off, run, start. I had not set the initial timing yet so I was making sure that I did not hit the start position. WELLLLLLLLLLLL the wife turned the switch on a boom! everything worked! The american auto wire switch has 5 positions; acc lock off run start. Now if stupid had jumped the wires AT the ignition switch he would have determined that he had a bad switch. but stupid figured new switch it is GOOD.
Late afternoon I called american auto wire and was asked for a call back number. At 5 I called back and they were closed. About 10:30 I called back and was told that their switches have 5 positions. When I told him they should put it in the instructions he said that if he got a lot of complaints he would. I guess I am the only dummy out here I should have known that

The AAW switch I got as part of the classic update kit is a 4-position switch (acc/off/run/start). The original switch was also 4 pos. Granted I bought the AAW kit 4 years ago, and it's for a 67 F-body.

I never use their switches, normally use a gm switch and splice in a pigtail.
