the real question is why would you want to do that in the first place?? I cant think of a single good reason unless you need to blow lots of money for taxes purposes..

      Whats needed for ls9 swap

New clutch, new wiring harness & computer, a/c fittings, new power steering lines made up, dry sump tank mounted, dry sump lines plumbed, oil breather tank mounted and plumbed, and the possible issues of the factory serpentine drive having clearance issues. Not sure if Mark Stielow has a factory subframe or not but you could check out his ls9 camaro build.

My ultimate goal is 650-700hp/torque at the wheels. (Cadillac dream) but i dont want to push 35k into a powerplant. My thought process is to swap in a engine that is "capable" of that power (in the future) and mod it when and if i choose to follow through. Id love to stay under a budget of 25k for the swap.

Have you ever owned a car with even 500rwph?

I will say this, a stock ls1 can. will and has made over 700 with a blower or turbo and lived for years... 500 is great.. 700 is better but no real difference in feeling until 3500/4000 rpm..

Also, fyi.. forged parts will not make a single hp more then stock part unless they are lighter... then they really just rev faster and higher..which is great for FI... If FI is an option, the best bang for the buck it to build a 4.8/5.3 iron block to ls1 spec 3.898/3.905 and forge that... get it totally balanced and your never build another motor.. just buy bigger head units.. FI really is a great equalizer when it comes to motors because your are forcing air in instead of ingesting it.. when it comes to that.. motor size really does matter to 99% of the people or situations. Money then could be spent elsewhere..

Anything over 500 IMHO is overkill on anything but a drag car I'd rather invest that money into getting power to the ground suspension, gearing etc especially since you all ready have a ls6 in the car which makes great power

      Whats needed for ls9 swap

      Suspension is already done
      Heidts ifs and four link
I'm ready for the power now
I've had a multitude of chevelles, turbo buicks, transams, with over the 700 mark using a turbo. My daily driver is a dodge mega cab with 900hp from my cummins
I'm tired of turbos and wanting to play with modern technology (not downing the turbos just tired of them) so the answer is fuel injected sc engine. Also sitting next to the camaro in the garage is my gt500 tuned to 800 hp at crank.
Please don't take me the wrong way. I've worked a long time and now I can play a lil. If I can budget (laughing) a ls9 over a LSA. Why not

the ls9 seems to have a compact s/c with high quality parts. The pricing of the engine is a value imo. That's what I want to install into my 69 camaro. Why don't you see more ls9 and 454 lsx installs?

Don't forget the fuel system. To do it the right and easiest way is going to require an injector change and appropriate fuel pump.

I've got an LS9 Camaro project going. It's in the project section here. You'll need the best cooling systems you can get -- radiator, engine oil, charge coolant, and probably power steering. LS9s generate a *lot* of heat.

because they are a waste of money for people who know....

I don't think a lot of people like the 454 because it's aimed more at the drag racing crowd. An iron block that is meant to have forced induction and in its na form isn't so impressive especially for the price IMHO
