      L96, pull trigger?

      Hey guys,

I have the chance to pick up a 2012 L96 out of a truck with 20k original miles for $2200. The truck was wrecked. It includes everything for the engine (including harness and computer) minus the starter and the power steering pulley is tweaked (probably from being pulled from the chassis). Is this considered a good deal? It's the iron block 6.0 with VVT and L92 LS3 heads. If I picked it up it would be going into my pro touring 71 nova project that I want to put a six speed manual behind (probably t56 magnum). Still unsure of the entire suspension that I am going to run. I would end up putting a cam in the engine and switch to a car intake and aftermarket computer/harness for tuning. Working and doing school full time though this engine may realistically sit two to three years before it gets into the car and is running. I know this is something I could always sell if it sat around too long and it would not be hard to get rid of. Thanks in advance guys!

I have a similar engine in my Pontiac g8 and it makes great power. Mine doesn't have variable valve timing, but it does have displacement on demand. I think I would prefer the variable valve timing. Now that it has been out for a few years, there are a few cam companies that make a cam or you could delete this system and run a standard LS cam. I haven't priced them recently, but the more parts you get the better including the gas pedal. I think they are very underrated LS engines. See what they are going for on eBay.

Thanks trinity, any dyno numbers? The ones on ebay I've seen are 2600-3K+ with double or more the miles this one has. I forgot to ask about the pedal, but I will hit him up on that. In all essence it is an iron block ls3 from what I am seeing.

More like an iron block ls2 with ls3 heads. No dyno numbers, but there are plenty of builds out there with a 6.0 and those heads. With the right cam you could be north of 425 and streetable.

Those would be just about perfect numbers. For the suspension I'm contemplating CA chassisworks complete set up so we'll see. I don't want something with so much power I can't keep the tires from breaking traction, but I would also like some fuel economy to justify driving it quite a bit.
