      The 383 is Alive!!

After 2 years of slowly building and spending money i heard the 383 roar to life 2 days ago.. The engin holds a solid 60lbs cold and 40 hot and driving.. The start up and initial break in went well the only problem I ran into was that a seal in the fuel pump and it started spewing oil out the side. I now have about 150 miles on the engine and here are my thoughts. The engine raps quickly and runs smoothly has good power but I am not sure of it is making the power I was hoping for.. The engine is still very much out of tune.. The timming needs to be set and the dist curved also the carb needs to be jetted and tuned. I concider the car to be very "raw" right now there are allot of little things that need attention but over all I am very happy to have the car back on the road!! As soon as I have about 500 miles on the engine I plan to have it dyno tuned and then the numbers will tell the truth...

Excellent! Get the carb sorted so you don't wash the cylinder walls with raw gas (if it's rich).

Congrats. I absolutely love my 383. No complaints at all!! Depending on your set up you should be 12's for sure. I still have cast iron stock heads and I pulled 12.66 in the quarter and lifted both front tires about 2" off the ground.
Can you list the specs and mabey post some pics?

I know its hard to believe but one of the pics are posted on the main page of this site in the car section. There are also videos of my car on my site. Keep in mind this is when my car was set up more for drag racing about 2 years ago and was about 4" higher. I was also running 28x10.5 slicks and dumped at 3,000rpm with the old 4 speed tranny. On my 3rd wheelie I blew 3rd gear and sold the transmission then swapped in the T-56 6 speed. Havent been back to the drag strip since.
