Need your input!!! 70 GTO max wheel size?

Getting ready to buy rims and tires for my 70 GTO, thinking 20.10 with 5 3/4 backspace in the rear and 19.8 with 4 1/2 backspacing in front. Thanks for your input!

I have 17 x 9's with 275/40 17's all the way around mine with no issues. Obviously 19/20's will be taller but the width will probably be the same on the front. They are the year one cast aluminum honeycombs whatever that back spacing is.

      Welcome to the forum.

I often wonder why people ask about wheel size, when what the real question should be what tire size and then you buy the appropriate wheel to match the tire with the proper backspacing. In the rear you can easily fit a 295 tire and in the front you can fit a 275 if the tire is not over 26" tall. Taller tires make fitment tougher in the front. I am currently running 295/35-18s in the rear on a 10.5 wide wheel with 6.25" backspacing. On the front I have 9.5 inch wheels using a 275/35-18 tire with 6" backspacing. The front tires do rub the sway bar at extreme lock, but that doesn't bother me. A 255 tire will 5.5" back spacing should be spot on.

And please post tech questions in the appropriate forum. The Open forum is not for tech question.
