      Is this a good deal?

I'm putting this here so it would get more traffic, bc I need to make a quick decision on this. My friend has a 12 bolt posi for first gen camaro, mulit leaf perches, has good axels, detroit carrier, etc, no gears. He wants $900 plus my 8.2 10 bolt for it. Is this a good deal? I have been looking for about 6 months for a rear, and have been coming up blank. I have found them, but they are always half way across the nation. This one is 3 miles from my house. Lemme know what yall think. Thanks!

I don't think that is a good deal at all for a used 12 bolt without a gearset. You can buy a new 31 Spline 9" for that price. Buy new and sell your 10 bolt on Craigslist. If you intend on staying with leaf springs then cut the perches off of and weld them onto the 9"

Call me crazy, but I have talked myself outta a 9". Mostly bc I already have my brake setup for a GM rear I guess, that and I just think 9" rears are ugly. He thinks its gold, I told him it's worth 5-600 tops needing redone.

you could get a brand new 12 bolt housing for $1,000, probably a bad idea unless you owe him a favor

Ha, quite the opposite actually. I built his Nova for him with the 30K+ I paid him last year (cash) in dozer work I had him do. I'd say if anything, he owes me a favor!!

Guess I'll pass on this "deal" then.

Wait what is everyone talking about??.... Im understanding you would be getting a complete 12 bolt rear with aftermarket axles and a detroit locker, minus the gearset {$150} for $900 dollars??? So you would have a grand total of maybe $1100 bucks in this thing on the road? Sounds like a decent deal to me. Go look up a musclepak Moser 12 bolt and re-think.

No, it's a bone stock 12 bolt rear out of a 69 camaro, that was originally constructed with a detroit posi according to the code, 3:31 gear. It has no gears, stock axles, no brakes (which I have a C6 Z51 disc set up anyway), and needs blasted, painted and completely redone. it's been sitting in a shed for 15 years.
