      Power brakes

      I have a question on my project V8 Square. I plan on running power brakes, front disc and rear drum. My question is, how far or close can my booster be from my exhaust manifold? I am really cramped for space.

      Is it going to be directly below the booster or off to the side? Is say 3 inches to the side would be fine, maybe 4-5 if the manifold is directly underneath. Then there's heat shields, wrap, film, etc.

      Thanks for the info. Another question. My project is a 1969 VW Type III, Squareback station wagen. The only think VW is the body. It is sitting on a custom made 2" x 3" tube chassis, sbc 350, 700R4 transmission, Mustang II front suspension with GM disc brakes, 9" Ford triangulated 4-bar rear with drum brakes. Wheelbase is 95" Overall weight should be around 2500-2600 pounds. What do you think about manual brakes instead of power and if so, what size bore for master cylinder?

      What's up/ Another dumb question. What is the average O.D. of a driveshaft and how much room do uou leave in the tunnel for clearance? That is from top of driveshaft to tunnel and from side of tunnel to driveshaft. Sorry for the stupid questions.

      Manual brakes should work well on that light of a car so long as you also spec your pedal ratio, MC bore size and pad coefficient of friction levels appropriately. When you say "GM disc brakes" I'm going to assume old-school D52's with maybe an 11" x 1" rotor? Assuming a 6:1 pedal ratio, a 1" bore MC with "FF" or "GG" pad compound should at least get you close to where you want to be. Since it's obviously a custom application, if you fudge your pedal ratio one way or the other, be prepared to adjust with your MC bore accordingly.
