      How close is too close?

Getting ready to start fabbing up the exhaust. I want to get it tucked up as close to the body as I can. So my question is "How close is too close?".
There is undercoating on the body and I'm running a 2.5" exhaust with a transverse muffler and about 300 hp.

      Are you coating the exhaust?
Try not to go much less than 3/4" anywhere unless you have to- of course be aware of where your hangers and clamps will be.

Thanks, sounds good. My exhaust won't be coated but my headers are.
      Thanks again for the response.

Some may suggest coating the entire exhaust but I've always considered any exhaust system as temporary. It always seems to get replaced for one reason or another (usually because of engine upgrades) making the coating pointless.

I think .25 (quarter inch) is too close. It does however depend on how much you've fortified your chassis to increase torsional rigidity; the more flex you've got, the more your pipes are likely to hit something on the chassis when you push the car. Relative to your situation with exhaust, what's funny is that I've been holding on to my Ford HiPo exhaust manifolds (surprisingly large ports) for too long, and just finally replaced them with headers (only because my new aluminum heads made me). The headers fit way better, providing way more shock tower and overall clearance; in what world does this happen?
