67camaro g-bar setup help

Hi guys looking for some input on setting up the rear? Axle has been narrowed tires are mounted no springs on car right now car is on jack stands..

Problem is when jack is placed under pumpkin and raised is stops well short of being stuffed up in the wells, and again springs are not on? It would make sense to me that with no shocks or springs that I should be able to stuff these all the way up? Thoughts, any input would be appreciated

Jeremy- what is interfering with you being able to raise the rear end all the way up? Something has to be contacting the frame or trailing arms I would think. Have you left all the harware loose? Are the tires contacting the wheelwell somewhere? Can you have someone jack it up while you get under the car to watch the suspension travel upward? Maybe post some pics, and double check to be sure everything is installed correctly.

I would also recommend removing the wheels and cycle the suspension with only the rear housing to see if you can locate the area that is binding.

We will try and remove wheels. It seems as if suspension is binding? I will try and get some pics up tomorrow. Tires are not hitting and looks to be a good 6-8" from top of tire to top of tub. At static ride height id like the quarter opening to be sitting just about where tire meets the rim?

Those kits are known for not being able to lower car too much. I just installed one on a 67 camaro and that right there is close to the final stance. It still allowed for full suspension movement, but with 17 inch wheels, I would have liked to get it a little lower. Just not enough room in there for everything without cutting trunk floor.

I think it has to be binding somewhere if that is the height with no springs. Are the shocks installed? Where are they sitting in their travel? Who installed the upper arm brackets on the rear end? Was the rear end at the specified distance from the rear frame rail when they were welded?

It is difficult to tuck the tire on a 67-68 compared to a 69 due to the shape of the wheel openings.

I have an old, original G-bar on my 69. I actually had to move the lower shock mounts up one position because it was too low. That may vary depending on shock/spring selection. With no shocks/springs, it should allow you to just about contact the tire to the top of the inner wheelhouse. Take the wheels off, loosen all the hardware, verify everything is installed properly, and go from there. Curious to see what the problem is.

I have an old, original G-bar on my 69. I actually had to move the lower shock mounts up one position because it was too low. That may vary depending on shock/spring selection. With no shocks/springs, it should allow you to just about contact the tire to the top of the inner wheelhouse.

Hi guys. So yes I was incorrect coilovers were installed. We readjusted everything only thing left is to move the top link of the coilover mount inwards. My guy took a video how would I post it here? With that said we still have almost 3" from top of the tire to quarter lip?

The tires are 335/35/18 btw working on youtube upload now. When the system was installed it was done with the jig prodigy supplied

Those shocks look fully extended. Is the car complete and at its final weight? What is the rate and length of the springs?

in that video car was on its own weight. No interior or gas tank yet but completely dynamated, as for spring shock info I have no clue I bought it as a package from prodigy 4 years ago. They are varishocks also when I purchased it I told frank what the intended setup was to be as well as use. If we preload the springs that would lift the car even more correct?

You need to take away preload, if posssible. Thread the adjusters all way to bottom of the shock body. They may already be there, but I really couldnt tell from that vid. Are the lower shock mounts in their lowest position? It may be that the shock/spring are too tall. If you could get some clear still photos we might be able to figure out whats going on. Worst case, remove the shocks & measure them from top bolt hole to bottom bolt hole. Then jack up the rearend to your desired final ride height. Measure the length from the top shock mount hole to the bottom mount hole. Compare that to the shock length.

Those are likely 250 pound springs. I think that is what Frank ended up shipping. I have a set of 175 pound Varishock springs here in my spring collection that you are welcome to try. I ended up with either 200 or 225 pound springs. Spring rate is printed on the springs.

If the suspension won`t fully compress with no spring and shocks then you have a binding issue. Are you sure there were no springs and shocks on the car when you tried it? The car looks only partially assembled, it`s probably too light to fully compress the springs. As far as ride height goes the car needs to be 100% assembled and ready to drive before you can determine and set ride height. It looks like you`re missing a few things, like the seats, engine, transmission?, gas tank etc. It should be sitting very high at this point. It will come down as you put the car together.

Mark, it says above that springs and shocks were installed. Shocks look fully extended in the video.

Dhutton thank you for the offer may take u up on that! Adjusters are bottomed out. Spring mounts are at the bottom setting. And yes the car has no interior or trunk. I would have figured tank battery and seats add maybe 200lbs? Maybe 300? Would that make that much of a difference? Im wondering if possibly the guys I had install the brackets messed up on install, not out of the question but those guys have been building chassis cars for awhile. I will get some better pics shortly, we are on the mad dash to make autorama here in Detroit. Correct the motor is not in yet but I assumed that would only make the front sit high? Its sitting ready to go along with a pcs controlled 4l80e.
