Friend's First Track Day

Well my friend finally got his car car out to his very first track day at High Plains Raceway in Colorado yesterday. It's an absolutely amazing replica of the #6 Mark Donohue Trans Am Champion Javelin and he had a good time so after sending me some photos and a couple of short videos, I put together this video for him to Tom Petty's "Runnin' Down a Dream"

Now considering the significance of the original car, imagine the reaction when he fired it up and pulled out of the trailer. He said people were all over the car wondering if it was the real car that sold recently for $847,000. Many asked to have their pictures taken sitting in the car.

He got three sessions in with no problems and he was needless to say, HAPPY. Now he knows what improvements to make over the winter.

No there isn't. Will try and put something together.

The car comes as close as it possibly can to replicating the original Trans Am car with only a few exceptions.

Talked to ColoradoAMX today and told me a great story I had to share about his first track day before he even hit the track.

They were under a large canopy at the track for a drivers meeting learning the rules and protocol for entering the track, passing etc. Wayne was talking to a few Porsche drivers and they asked Wayne, “What are you driving”? Wayne simply said, “Some old Javelin”. The Porsche guys just said……. “Oh”.

At that point his son Aaron heads over to the car, fires it up and drives it over to the drivers meeting canopy. EVERYONE empties out of the canopy and the meeting rushing to the car. The Porsche guys say, “THAT’S THE OLD JAVELIN YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT”?

They thought it was the real car and were taking photos of the car with people wanting to sit in it for photos and wanting to see the engine. Eventually, Wayne told them it was a replica of the Donohue car. But he said that was almost as fun as driving the car on the track.

So, which one is the real deal???
