      MAF placement?



      above is the setup I am running on my car, note the placement of the MAF. I have several questions. I have put roughly 400 miles on the car since the swap and it runs really good but the best gas mileage I have gotten so far is 21 mpg. I am running a t56 with 3.23 gears, at 80 mph it is turning 1500-1600 rpm.

      My question(s)
      Is the placement of the MAF ok or would it be better somewhere else down stream of the air flow.

      The tune on it as of now is a basic start up tune. Vats and all the emissions stuff tuned out. The cats are also removed and the rear o2s. Would a dyno tune help increase the fuel mileage?



      Any advice appreciated.

      It'd be best in the middle of the straight section closer to the TB. The placement now doesn't seem that bad though. You'll pick up mpg with a tune.. But if you change the position of the maf you'll need to tune it again

      Also, it helps to have the screen in the MAF. I can't see from your picture, but if it has been removed its best to replace it. That screen actually functions to "straighten" airflow before it reaches the sensors to get a more accurate and less turbulent reading.

      I would say your MAF placement isn't too bad. To get the most accurate MAF readings, you want as much straight pipe ahead of the sensor as feasible. The rule of thumb I seem to remember from my flow dynamics is having 7 pipe diameters ahead of any flow sensor. Because that is not always possible, I would agree with Mitch above about leaving in the screen on the inlet side of the MAF sensor, if it originally came with one. That little dude can dos a lot for getting stable readings.

      Before looking to the MAF sensor as the culprit for the less than expected gas mileage, I would scan/monitor the overall tune of the engine while on the road. This would include monitoring a host of parameters such as: Fuel System Status, Spark Advance, Knock Retard, Total Misfire Current Count, Short Term Fuel Trims, Long Term Fuel Trims, Air Fuel Ratio, Oxygen Sensor Output and Power Enrichment. If all of these parameters are all within their normal and appropriate ranges, then your engine may be doing the best it can for your economy.

      I may be wrong, in the picture the IAT is in front of the MAF, I thought it was suppose to be in between the TB and MAF?
