Its been a while since we have been on the boards...the kids only work on the car over the Summers. Well, we went to install new rear shocks and the top two studs JUST SPIN!!!!!!

Has anyone else ran into this? If so, any suggestions on how to handle. Remember, the nova has the upper mounts covered and you cannot get to them without cutting into the trunk.

      thanks in advance.

grip the old shock shaft with vise grips and undo the upper nut

I'm not sure that's possible. I am assuming you think the rear uses the single stem style upper mount. The 69 Nova has the 2 upper bolts that come down into the holes in the top of the shock. Add to this you cannot see the upper side of the upper mount...they are covered by the trunk.

      thoughts?

      ??? what??

it looks like this right? you can hold the upper part of the shaft at the very top with the vice grip

or you put the vice grip UNDER the car on the shock shaft and then undo the upper bolts you have to take the wheel off to get better access

Not at all. That's not the type of rear shocks installed.
