      New guy from AZ

      Hello folks.

I've been into factory correct numbers Pontiacs, but I have my share of these already (67 GTO convertible, HO, 4-speed; 68 Firebird 400 convertible, auto, A/C, cruise; and 70 Trans Am, RAIII, 4-speed, A/C, being assembled).

So last winter I started to think about a pro-touring project. I found a 1970 Firebird Formula that I thought would be a great candidate--really nice body, originally Carousel Red (Hugger Orange), Sandalwood interior, 4-speed.

I just finished completely tearing it down. Next stop will be a frame shop to make sure everything is perfectly straight before the real fun begins.
I've committed to an aluminum aftermarket Pontiac block, Ford 9" rear end, DSE subframe & quadralink rear suspension, mini tub kit, etc. I'm going to stay with the stick, but need to do more research to find a 5 or 6 speed that can handle the torque that the 505 will produce (650ish). Will also be staying with the basic factory color scheme but with black wheels (Formula 43).

Looking forward to getting acquainted with the community here and to learning the ins and outs of pro-touring projects

      Jeff

Im hoping to relocate there in 8 years. It would be such a joy to enjoy my car more than 6 months a year.

Cool, I'll have to take a trip out there and check it out, are you planning a build thread for the Formula on here?

I moved here with the family about two years ago--we love it. In addition to being able to enjoy our cars year round there are some fantastic drives as well. The availability of rust free cars out here still amazes me (lived in CT, MI and FL)

Great, I look forward to meeting you. Yes, I'm planning to start a build thread...although we have the basics laid out, I need some opinions, recommendations, and suggestions regarding many elements of the project.
