So, my factory gauges have issues and I have decided to go aftermarket for the time being to get some modern gauges in the car. I have been looking at either doing a retrofit with some Speed Hut units or go the Dakota Digital VHX series. Problem with the VHX gauges is that I don't like the way they look out of the box. Dakota will do a custom overlay for an additional charge which gets them looking much better. The only issue I have is with the placement of the outer pods. The left outer is oil pressure and volts and the right outer is water temp and fuel gauge. I told them that the pairing does not make perfect sense and it appears that they are going to leave them the way they are and are not interested in making significant design changes. I think they make a great product, just wish they were more flexible with gauge placement.
Here is what they are currently offering for the GTO. YUK!

Here is the Dakota Digital rendering, cleaning up the overlay to something that looks good.

So, to use an aftermarket gauge that is a standard 4" gauge, I needed to procure a set of Lemans intermediate bezels (triple pod and clock pod) to deal with the goofy radius on the back side of the dash. This intermediate bezel takes an oblong hole and makes it perfectly round, allowing good view of the gauges. All I need to do is get some 16 gauge steel and make a back template for the gauges to mount to. I am concerned that I will see some of the bezel on the speedo and tach when installed. I am confident that the bezel on the outer gauges will be outside the lines of the intermediate bezel
