      Installing New Cipher E-8 Seats

Yesterday I finally got a chance to install the new E-8 Seats from Cipher into my Monte. Here are some pics to document the process.

      Unpacking the E-8 seats

Here are my current Cipher seats, which were great, but I wanted a little different style of seat.

These are the new brackets that allow me a bolt in installation.

Maybe I should have vacuumed first!

Sliders are attached to the mounting bracket

Slider and bracket assy mounted to the seat bottom

Seat base bolted in (I would advise putting the whole seat together before you mount it in the car)

Close up of the lever. You can recline or fold the seat all the way forward. Grade 8 hardware is used for seat assembly.

      Drivers seat installed

This time I assembled the passenger seat before I dropped it in... much easier.

Both seats are mounted with seatbelts threaded through. Not to take away from the other Cipher seat models, but the E-8 seats are outstanding and fit me perfect.

Those seats really look nice. If I didn't have seats already I would be definitely looking at those.

I can't believe cipher is using those brackets though. Definitely looks like a wedge engineering bracket. For the money they charge you should get a higher quality bracket and at least some customer service. Sorry just my experience with them....

      Very nice seats though.

Marc, sorry you had a bad experience with Wedge.. these are their brackets. The quality and fit is great in my opinion. I would suggest not getting their adjustable brackets unless you are 5'7" or shorter as they put the seats up too high. But the brackets shown in my install worked perfect for me.

Did you use the adjustable brackets?

How is the head room relative to stock?

I'm 6'3 and interested in these seats..what type of brackets would you advise?

      Thanks,

      Donnie

You can see I originally had the adj brackets. They set my seat up about .5" higher than stock.. which was ok for me. Now with my new seats, I got the flat brackets which sit the seats lower to the floor by a couple inches.

I would get the flat brackets for you since you're 6ft +.

Yes it sets the belt right where I want it on my shoulder.. not on my neck. And when the kids need to hop in the back I can just use the seat lever to bring the belt forward so they can get in easily.

With the flat brackets do you lose the sliding adjustment?

At 6'3 would you say I'll have even a millimeter of head room or no?

      Thanks,

The sliders attach to the flat brackets.. you will be able to slide the seat forward and back with them...

What car are you wanting to put these in?

It's hard to say what headroom you'll have.. I can give you an approx height of the flat brackets (2-3") sliders (.75-1") and the seat thickness will vary based on model.

      Installing New Cipher E-8 Seats

Thank you Tony and sorry for the delayed response. They are going into a 68 Camaro.

      Donnie

I'll measure the floor to seat height when I get home and post back.

      No problem Donnie.

I'll help with measurements and we can figure out if their seats will workout for you or not. Thanks

      Installing New Cipher E-8 Seats

      Tony,

I got a chance to measure last night and came up with 40-41 inches floor to headliner.

The seats seem to be about 35-36 inches tall so how tall are they overall when sitting on the shortest runners? Which of your seats provide more head room?

      Thanks,

      Donnie

Figure about 2.5" tall for a flat bracket, .5" for the slider and 35.5" for the seat, so a total height from the floor to the top of the seat would be about 38.5"

      Does that help?

I'm not sure which seat provides the most headroom, but here's chart from their site:
