I have the 12.8" C5/6 rotors on the front of my Chevelle. Is there a mounting bracket available that would reposition the caliper to allow me to use a 14" rotor?

Isn't the C5/6 Z51 rotor 14 inches? If so im pretty sure Tobin at Kore 3 will have the brackets.

I'm pretty sure they are more like 13.3 to 13.5....not a full 14"...but still plenty, and they fill an 18" very well. If you have a bracket now that accepts C5 brakes (KORE3 or others), all you need is the proper Z51 style abutments. They are just a bit taller to make up the difference. Hit up Jeff Tate, he ordered some for me a few months ago, or KORE3 should have them too. Your existing calipers (C5 or C6) will work.

Thanks. I got an email from Tobin (Kore3) explaining what parts I need. He said to go to a full 14" rotor I would have to get different calipers. The 13.4" rotors are the Z51 size and my current calipers will work with the proper abutments as you said.

Why cant you run C6 Z06 rotors with ur C5 calipers?

U going to sell ur bear rotors you have now?

According to Tobin, the relocation brackets to run my calipers with a 14" rotor won't work with my ATS spindles. I'd have to run Z06 calipers if I want the 14" rotor.

Cracks are starting to form around the holes so I hadn't really thought about selling the Baer rotors. I guess the rotors could be turned, maybe that would get rid of the cracks.

Hey André,

If I decide to go the Z06 route, then I'll wait on it. I might do the Z51 stuff now and when I'm ready for the Z06 parts, I can move the Z51 parts to the El Camino. No hurry, just mapping things out. And yes, it has been a while!

I have the C6 ZO6 calipers bolted directly to my ATS spindles. There is no need for any adapter. I use the Z06 14" rotors, well actually, DBA slotted rotors that are C6Z06 fitment.

That's good to know. Maybe if I can find a decent set of Z06 calipers for a good price I'll go that route.

Andrew, can you post a picture of the Z06 caliper mounted to the ATS spindle, from the chassis side of the assembly?

I wish I had that picture for you, but I don't. I was just looking for some other info in the Disk brake forum and ran across that exact picture, but now I can't seem to find it again. What is it that you are curious about? The caliper bolts directly to the lugs on the ATS spindle.

Also keep in mind that the C6 Z06 calipers need a lot of caliper clearance in the wheels. I used a template from the Kore3 website to check my wheels and it was very close:

Those C6 Z06 calipers sure do look nice, but I was too worried about fitment with Torq-thrusts and having to space out the wheel to clear them.

I think it's a ATS spindle thing. The Z06 calipers bolt right in place on the ATS spindle and work with the 14" rotor as I've discovered. At first I thought this would be the way to go, but after looking everything over, I'm not sure this is what I want. My big concern is having to remove the calipers to replace brake pads. I think I need something with a simpler/quicker way to change pads, especially at a track day.

Last month I had the Elky at Summit Point for two days of track time and I changed the front pads twice and the rear pads once. It would have been great to pull a cotter pin and swap in new pads but instead I had to break out the tools.

We offer what we call "Hybrid" bracket kits to run the 2-piston C5/C6 calipers with the 14" C6 Z06 rotors, however these kits are only available for applications where there a caliper adapter bracket is needed. Since no bracket is needed with the ATS AFX, C5, or C6 spindle/knuckle applications, there is no "Hybrid" option available at this time.

Herb, as for pad changes, regardless of the calipers I've usually found that it's easier to remove the caliper when changing pads so that you can clean everything up and thoroughly inspect everything before putting it back together. GM recommends pulling the pad guide pins from the C6 Z06 calipers to change the pads, however it can make retracting the pistons difficult with the rotor in the way unless you have a set of piston retraction pliers, so I still opt for the two M14 mounting bolts.

If you're burning through pads as fast as it sounds, you may want to reevaluate your pad compound choice for track days as it sounds like you may be running at or beyond the upper temperature limits for your previous compounds.

That's a true statement. When I had the Elky on the track, I didn't have time to order pads so I used street pads and let me tell you... they didn't last! lol

I'm in no hurry to make any changes, I was just thinking about going with bigger rotors. At least now I have good info for when I do decide to change stuff.

So you're running a GM tall-spindle conversion on your A-body? If that's the case, then we do offer "Hybrid" bracket kits for the GMTS application which allow you to run the 14" C6 Z06 rotor and 2-piston floating caliper, however whether they'll fit inside your 18" wheels or not depends on your wheels. It's likely that they will not fit inside 18's, but you could opt for the slightly smaller 340mm C6 Z51 kit and standard C5/C6 conversion brackets with your current wheels.
