      Upper Control Arm Specs

Does anyone know the specs for upper control arms for 2nd gen 70-81 firebirds/camaros?

      The length? Angles?

      Stock?
      Length to get more caster?

They're not that hard to figure out if you have one to measure... Drill a 5/8 hole in a piece of plywood and stick the upper ball joint stud down through it. Draw a line along each side of the cross shaft and mark where the mounting holes are. Find the center of the 2 lines for the cross shaft. square up to that and measure out to the ball joint hole. The distance from the middle of the cross shaft to the ball joint is the effective length of the control arm. If you find the center line of the 2 holes in the cross shaft and measure over from a line drawn square to the ball joint, that is the offset. (The one shown has 0 offset)

PS, length won't change caster (much). Offset is what affects caster, but most aftermarket a-arms are pretty close to the stock offset so they will work with stock mounts. You can buy a "build-up" upper control arm (also referred to as a strut arm) from various circle track manufacturers that will allow you to radically change caster and camber in the arm itself.

After much research, I have found that you want

      -Some offset
-as close to 9" length arms as possible.
      -7 3/4" bolt center

However, the only ones that offer this use truck BJs which require reaming the spindle out.

how much caster are you looking for? what are you trying to accomplish? Any decent aftermarket arm should net you near 5* caster or more. much more and the tire gets into the wheel well as the wheel gets set back too much. I think SPC now makes a lower CA that pushed the LBJ forward a bit to alleviate some of that clearance issue.
