I will try to keep my story short. I have a 69 Camaro, that will be going to the street. 468 big block, glide, full body, full interior car(white houndstooth), the car is red with white z-28 stripes. I will be putting the correct ss stripe on it, not sure if I will do black or white. The car is originally black with vinyl top. I am not going to paint the car black due to maintenance. I am contemplating on putting the vinyl top on it though.
Anyways, the car will have a low stance, as much as exhaust will allow. Stock front suspension, maybe coil overs in factory position. The rear will be leaf spring via dse mini tub kit.
I want to do 17's and 18's. My problem is the huge cost difference between a 10 and 12" wide wheel. I also dont think I like the way the tire looks when it gets "pulled out" from the extra width.
I do want a dish, not too big and not too small. I want the road race/street look. I like the fuel and livewire from rushforth. I am working on a budget and would be interested in other wheels of comparable or less cost.
So, here is the opinions I want.
Vinyl top?
Black or white stripe?
Will a 10" wheel look wrong with the dse kit?
What wheels?
Polished, grey(titanium), both?
Thanks in advance!

This is the road course style that I like. Who makes these?

^ those look like Boze wheels, I could be wrong tho. On some of your other questions, I'd skip the white vinyl top and you should have no prob w 10 in wheels w a mini tub as long as you get the right backspace/width rear end....

What are road course style wheels? If by that you mean, "not 5 spokes" then there are plenty of wheels to choose from. Lots of guys run the euro looking split spokes such as the boyds pt-10s or anything that looks similar, on 1st gens.
I say no vinyl top either. They look like doodoo and encourage water build up producing rust.
Well, do you want a stripe on the car or not? If yes is the answer and white or black is your only stripe color options then go white. Black, as a body color, is a difficult color to work with on a small and athletic car such as the 1st gen. Black does wonders for large cars but can make for a odd looking small car without an accent piece or pieces. Stripes of some sort would be advisable.

The vinyl top is optional to me, but if I was going to do it, It would be black with a black ss stripe. I am definitely going to do a stripe just not sure on color, if I dont do the black vinyl top. A buddy of mine read the plates and says the car is originally black with a black vinyl top.
I call them road course wheels because thats what I mostly see on the track cars. The rearend is mark williams modular 12 bolt with the aluminum bells and steel tubes. So the tubes will be made to whatever length i need.
Thanks for your ideas folks, keep them coming!

Sounds like you are going to have an awesome car. If you are looking to keep originality, as in if it's on the data plate then the car is going to have it, but maybe a different color or finish, then I would go a deep gloss black with a black vinyl top and flat, or satin, racing stripes.
3rd post in this thread is one of my favorite 1st gens in black: https://www.pro-touring.com/showthread.php?26817-Pro-touring.com-Gallery-thread
It is difficult to select wheels until you have the car put together, or at least some concept art to work with. If you are not on too much of a budget the Forgeline wheels all look great.

If your looking for a mesh style wheel then you should look into rushforth nightrains. The two piece wheels are also reasonably priced.

I have a freshly painted black truck, and will never have another black paint job. They do look very good when done correctly, but maintenance is too much for me on more than one vehicle.
The car will be red, I am just contemplating on the color of the stripe.
Have any of you built or seen a first gen with dse minitubs and a 10" wheel? I am curious as to what it looks like.
Keep the opinions coming! Thanks!

Looking good, Ken! Thanks for representing!
Here's one we did 18x8s and 19x10s with a 295/35/19 out back that is quite a bit more tire than would fit comfortably in a stock wheelwell but doesn't require the big upcharge for 12s or the price of supercar tires and the difference between the front and rear tire sizes isn't enough to cause a big understeer situation like 245s and 335s.

Tell me more about that car. Stock front suspension? Does it have a minitub? I like that.

Im running into the same problem. 335/30/18s arent that expensive if you get the kdw2 but im afraid to look at the price difference of a 10" and 12" wide wheel. My car is a 67 camaro dse quadralink and mini tubbed. I want a deep dish staggered setup too
Any chance we can see a rear end shot with those 295?

With a red car, I would do the black stripe and no vinyl top.
How much chrome is on the car now? If you have a lot of chrome, then I think the wheels would look good with brushed centers and polished lip. I like the first Forgeline that PTS posted.

Stock front subframe with tubular control arms and mini-tubs out back. You could get a 305 on the 10s as well but like we talked about on the phone last week, when you go with supercar size tires, you get supercar size sidewalls which you said you weren't into so the 295/35 or 40 is really your best bet.
Oh, and ditch the vinyl top. They're moisture traps that disrupt a car's clean lines.
