View Full Version : Wheel Spacers - should I go there?

The wheels I'm looking at only come in 5.5" bs. so I would have to run a 1/2" or 5/8" spacer to get them to clear the frame rail. The question is - should I? I would just us open end lugs to get enough bite on the threads.

What kind of wheels? I could get you a set of billet spacers made that have the same O.D. as the wheels mounting pad so it will look like the wheel. Different stud length will also come into play as well.

I would also suggest using an ET Conical lug nut to help with stud engagement. They'll help by grabbing .25" more stud. Remember, the rule of thumb is you want as much stud engagement, as the diameter of the stud to be safe: http://driverzinc.com/product/wheel-installation-kit/

They are MB wheels. I would prefer a hub centric spacer...

Thanks Jon - I like the extension on those lug nuts - those might work perfect.

With a loose spacer of that thickness, hub-centricity is very important, preferably at both the interface between the spacer and the hub and the hub and the wheel. Bigger and/or better wheel studs would be a good idea regardless of how you intend to drive it IMO. We have a customer who set up a 4500# car with 1.2" loose spacers this way with no issues after several years, however he also upgraded to M14 wheel studs at the same time. I would have preferred a bolt-on type adapter at that thickness, however that isn't typcially an option until you get to at least 7/8" thickness.

Thanks Tobin. Yes is .625 is too thin for an adapter but gets on the thick side of a loose spacer.

you want as much stud engagement...
