You wouldn't believe how much went into making this all work. The guys at AME make a good product but getting them to aknowledge an issue or respond to the problem is like pulling teeth. Anyway, frame is now channelled and still as strong as it was before. Will get shots from up top later.

I would actually have an update for you guys if people in the parts business ever actually did there jobs. Been waiting since April on hinges from Fesler and they keep telling me it will be 6 weeks , every 6 weeks so I've given up on them. Every week my tank from Rick's Tanks is supposed to ship. At the end of my rope. This industry is such a joke that I amazed everyone isn't bankrupt.

car looks great ! sad thing is there is really no competition in the custom fuel cell market. over priced and b.s waiting times.. you would think for the price they would have some premade for such a popular car. i am close to finishing my own gas tank with a grand total of $185 materials fittings weld bungs etc.

Simmer down, gee whiz. Fesler is a joke so that's no suprise and ricks I have no experience with. They are not all bad, just some, don't label the industry bad because of a few bad experiences with certain vendors. Try Rock Valley for your tank. They are closer to you so shipping will be less and I have never waited more than 3 weeks for a tank and that was a custom build to my specs.
Crestronwizard
07-04-2012, 06:01 AM
Oh, I didn't list all the issues with vendors I've had. Just the two most recent holding me up. Just frustrations coming through. On a good note, Anthony at Tommie Vaughn has always been top notch.

Amen brother. I have been having the same experiences recently. This seems like a digital industry, the person/companies you deal with know lots and are very helpful or are completely useless...
Ask me if I have my power steering assembly that I paid for May 16th... Wait for it... 2011!!!!!!!!!! :ripped:
I'm fortunate enough to have a brother in law who's a partner at the largest business law firm in western Canada, so legal action is free.
I work in an industry where I choose vendors and make decisions on spending ~$100MM/year and I am used to fantastic customer service at all times, and if I don't get it, I move my way up the ladder until I do, or I go elsewhere. As a consumer I pretty much get the opposite treatment. Drives me f ing nuts.
But I digress... Looking forward to updates on that awesome machine.

Thanks Wes..........I think that's why I get frustrated as well. In my business I deal with high dollar equipment and great service is expected from the manufactures and my clients expect it from me too. On a good note, Hector sent me pics of the tank today and looks like it will be finished the 10th. Communication is critical.

How far apart on the inside are the front frame rails on your car?

I was at 23-3/4" (stock Mustang II) and had room so I widened it out 3" to 26-3/4". Gives me some options if I decide to go the Coyote route and cleans up my UCA mounts a bit. Thanks for the info!

First post to tell you that this thing is amazing and going to be such a fun car. Although, being a turbo guy, I'm a bit sad you didn't do that! I've got a 2011 GT with a built coyote and a 67mm turbo in my shop right now getting some details finished up (i.e. changing brand of turbo for one that won't grenade). On pump gas it made about 650hp to the tire and has a great power band! Any reason why you decided not to go turbo? Or did I just skip over that post somehow....probably by being a 4yr old and not being able to take my eyes off the pictures.
Crestronwizard
07-06-2012, 07:08 PM
I love turbos. Really considered it. This is going to be a driver and it came down to two issues. (1) under hood space is extremely tight. (2) ease of tuning. There are proven tunes already for the supercharger while turbo I would have time in getting it set correctly. While I'm sure I would have been please with the turbo, this particular car doesn't have to kill it in the quarter. I'll be building something else for that :).
JEbrake
07-06-2012, 07:19 PM
Fair enough!! What SC are you going with? Is it a stock internal engine? And yes, tuning can be a pain. But there is a twin turbo kit available for these that come complete with a tune as well...although I'm doubting the packaging would be the same as a 2011 GT! Keep up the good work, I'll be following this.
Crestronwizard
07-07-2012, 06:47 AM
The current plan is to use the car to design and show off a SC kit for a well known company. Once the deal is inked I'll let it be known. The really cool thing is all this is under the stock hood. Even have room to fit the SC :).

Twin Screw. It's going to be close but with the new frame and pan the engine is sitting pretty low.

Are you going to make removable panels, like in between the tubing? Or a weld in full piece?

Iw would leave the tubing exposed, really shows off the craftsmanship and thought that went into it. Covering it all up somehow seems wrong.

Got it from these guys: http://www.specialtypowerwindows.com/products.php?c=2&t=13 There is a long piece that looks like a screw that rides in the tube. It moves back and forth therefore moving the wipers back and forth.

The crank pulley has two sets of grooves. The kit is designed to run on the set closest to the block. Unfortunately, that's blocked for us because of the Turn Key kit. Sent it back to Whipple for a different snout to push us out 1 7/16". I've decided to modify the Turn Key bracket to accommodate the idler needed for the supercharger instead of having a separate one. After it's mocked up we'll cut one big one on the CNC.

I'm contemplating buying a set, since these have the proper shades to make HID retrofitting proper, by cutting the light beam off at a proper hight, to not blind other drivers.

We built it to function for me using the experience that Kelly has from years of building race cars. That being said, I need to look at what I might would run in to make sure it will pass. It's supposed to be a street car first so if I get too serious with one of the classes then I'll re-evaluate then.

I ran into the same issue on my Falcon with the mod motor, ended up going with about a 2 3/4" bump up, I could have gotten away with about 2" if I planned to stay with the stock intake but I wanted to leave my options open. Now that I have confirmed with Roush that thier TVS blower will fit under my modded hood I just have to save up the cash to make it happen. With the quality of work you do I am excited to see the solution you come up with.
That is right at my clearance, I have read on this site anything over 4" and you should be good for street cruising.

I love that hood..........there's one on the Shelby that's here at the shop. The issue is clearing the throttle body and inlet tube. I believe I'm going to cut the stock hood in a very tight pattern around the blower and inlet for now and see how that looks. To run any other hood we'll probably need to make our own inlet to replace the one Whipple sends.

I used the Shelby hood for inspiration but had the same issues to deal with, with the TB up a the front it makes it hard to clear. I fabbed up my own version of the Shelby hood, pushing it forward like on the newer Mustang Shelby KR's. I am sure you guys could do something custom and given your skilll level it will look more polished than mine.

Maybe a stupid question: you guys anticipating any issues with the alternator frame mounted rather than engine mounted? Also the exhaust mounts on the frame? Maybe I missed something: is the engine solid mounted? BEAUTIFUL execution on your build!
Crestronwizard
01-28-2013, 04:27 AM
Good questions. We are using solid mounts for the engine. The exhaust goes through the frame. Hard to see in the pics but there are tubes welded in the frame that the exhaust runs through. There are smaller tubes for the brake lines and long piece of square tubing for the fuel lines. Everything is tucked above the frame so if I scrape its on frame. Ground clearance is 5 inches.

It doesn't help your hood clearance any, but I've always like the solution that the YearOne Garage used on their 2003 Cobra motor into a '66 fastback...they fabbed a throttle body mount on the back of their supercharger that allowed the use of a classic oval air cleaner (modified of course).

It is a cool retrofit for sure, only issue is then you have to run speed density as there is not room for the MAF. Works fine on the DOHC 4.6 with an aftermarket computer controlling it but I do not think you can run the Coyote off of Speed Density, its computer needs the MAF to meter incoming air unless you switch to a different control system.

White is an awesome colour for a Mustang; but for a road going car, it is a very jealous colour to maintain. I predict a lot of impaled bugs. I would probably go no.2 on the colour; but I wouldn't fret too much, because you'll be going too fast most of the time, for onlookers to fixate on the colour.

I’m sorry, I didn’t understand the spray painters’ parlance the first time around, but I see now, thanks to the pictures. I agree the white does pop, but I’m not so sure of that on overcast days. That is my experience with white anyway. When you said tangerine over silver, I envisioned that you were going to paint the roof down (also hood and trunk) with tangerine, and, then dividing it from the lower portions in silver, with an AAR Cuda type bar down the length of the car. I have to curb my coffee intake, because I was way off. :pat: Good luck with whatever you choose.

I vote white, but I may be a little biased... The renderings don't have a blower sticking out of the hood, have you engineered a way to sit the engine lower?
If you made the tail panel the same grey as the rims, I think it would look nice and clean and not even need stripes
Crestronwizard
05-07-2013, 05:17 PM
Blower will still be out of the hood. The engine sits as low as it can. The body drop is what screwed me. I think if I were to do it again that is the one thing I wouldn't mess with.
Painting the tail panel was suggested today. Definitely worth considering.

Is it because your Tremec has the Ford style bearing retainer? You can probably use the Quarter Master or the Howe "street" bearings as long as you turn down the snout of the bearing retainer to the Chevrolet dimension. There should be minimal removal of material required.

Looking fantastic. Great choice on the colour and stripe colour. I think the taillight panel flat black would look awesome.

WOW! What an incredible build. Just found this thread and read all 24 pages, outstanding craftsmanship!
Was hoping you'd go with the orange or white myself without stripes. No matter what you go with it's still gonna be killer. Any chance you'll have it at the Good Guys show in Charlotte in October?

Thank you for the compliments. It's not looking good for making it. The one piece glass kit for the doors finally shipped so once that brace is installed in the doors we'll check the body work again and hopefully spray it within 10 days. The hood has been the biggest pain body work wise. Then there is an enormous amount of wiring and software to do. Then interior. :).

Holy crap... Ok so I just looked at and read most of the 24 pages leading up to this moment. Anything new happen over the past few months?
The car is badass and I wish I could do half the stuff you have done to yours for my 67 haha. The car is badass tho

What size wheels are you using? are they rushforth? what are the tire dimesnions
What radiator did you go with? how many rows?
Also the Iysis kit, is that a general kit or one custom for your application?
Crestronwizard
12-30-2013, 03:23 PM
They are Rushforth 18's. I'll have to look when I'm back from vacation and check the tire size. I believe I ended up doing 295's on the back and 235
Front. I can go wider in the front but back was the limit without flares. Had I known I wouldn't end up with a back seat I would have moved the rear rails in.
Good question on the radiator. I think I bought it two years ago! 3 row.
The ISIS stuff is their off the shelf parts. I'm going to add in a Crestron processor and do some custom programming and graphics of my own.

I'm interested to know what you think of the one piece glass kit. Where did you get it? I'd love to ditch the vent windows on my fastback.

Thanks for the kind comments.
The window kit is from onepieceproducts. I would like to report that it worked great but unfortunately it doesn't. Lots of fitting problems. Doesn't roll up enough. Weird gaps. Etc etc. the kit for the fastback may work but the coupe kit is trash. $1k down the drain.

That's what I was worried about. I watched his installation videos today, and noticed that he installed it on a car without any weatherstripping. That was a huge red flag for me. If I was making a kit like this, fitment to the roofline would be something I touted, not hid.
I was reading through the thread yesterday, and something you said stuck out to me. I too, cannot believe the number of companies in the auto hobby arena that somehow manage to continue to exist. They'd never make it in any other industry. This applies to parts, service, and ESPECIALLY paint shops. It's crazy.
Huge holes in the market.

Yeah, I was chastised a bit for my comments but in my line of work you have to deliver top notch customer service and in a timely manner. Plus, all the products I sell have to come from manufacturers that deliver what they say when they say it. This industry has an amazing enthusiast base with great craftsman willing to go to great lengths to help each other. It's too bad many manufactures take advantage of that. Surprisingly Jegs, Summit and Speedway have been consistently good.

my opinion that is exactly why they are the leading 3 parts suppliers. ever notice summit does not sell junk/ off brand parts. what ever you buy from them you can buy in confidence. i will always by from jegs or summit before any other supplier

Awesome project man I hope your still moving on it. I am starting a similar project on my 66 coupe however not going half as far as you. But I do have and will have a few questions on your t56/coyote swap. What gear ratios are you using in the rear and trans? Is my first but I know I will have some vss questions down the road etc. thanks and keep it up.

Just read the thread from page 1, really awesome work! My buddy and I are starting on a 68 GT. Not going to be as involved as this one, but should make for a really interesting build once we finish up with the 351c and c6 it had. Gonna sell it and use the money to start hacking away at the car to get it back to pretty.
