i got a nice LED light bar out of the trailer section in walmart, it's for inside an enclosed trailer.

      it's about 6 inches long.
it really puts out a cool blue light inside my trailer, i love it.

recessing it some how would be cool

bulb lights are not that cool, if you doing it, do it, and put some nice LEDs in it. maybe hide a whole kit for a motorcycle in there, that matches your exterior.

Believe it or not, I have found some nice ones in mid 80's Fords. Lincolns and T-birds and some 80's F150's used a nice square one with two map lites that come in either chrome or body color. They are flat on the base which makes them very easy to mount.Pic attached.

I just did a ridiculous amount of research on this last week and the market isn't that great if you want to buy new. For price, looks and lighting, I ended up with these. I haven't tried them out yet, but plan to tonight. They should be plenty bright - I plan to install them in the rear sail panels. If they work okay, I may put some on the front kick panels at a later date.

I ended up going stock, I'll see how bad it really ends up being and possibly address it with a bunch of led's inside the lens.

Are the LED replacement bulbs any good for the factory dome light on old cars? The one that looks like a great big glass fuse.

I use LED bulbs from superbrightled.com and I like them. Plenty of brightness and they look cool as well.

I have an LED replacement I got online for cheap and it works just great so far. The amount of power my dome light was pulling from the battery was more than you would think and the new led is much brighter and whiter. I actually like the warm orange glow that the stock bulbs give but the power draw was a no brainer to conserve power. With LED tail lights the power the lighting system draws is cut substantially which helps the battery life.

Cool blue light is what you get and you will either get used to it or go back.

I used the base from a 2nd gen Camaro because it was round, picking the shape of the bezel is important to the other things in the car to keep a theme of shapes.
