So, I am wondering what the opinion on this forum is on this topic. I have read "other" forums, namely ones I am unsure of trusitng, but the opinions I get here I DO trust! I want to have a sweet set of wheels when the time comes, but also don't want to break bank. I wish I could afford some Forgelines, but I know I can't. I am looking to buy a less expensive (not cheap) wheel set, black with a polished lip, but would love to have that colored lip look. Does powder coating compromise the strength of a wheel? Is paint heavier or powder? Just curious on the word out there!

Powder coat does not hurt the wheel in any way. As for painting, painting is fine. In fact many color coded lips your seeing are painted as powder can be difficult to match many colors. Paint is fine on wheels.

Paint and powder coating are both fine alternatives for wheels. Neither have any affect on the strength of the wheel. We do both. Like Frank mentioned above...some color matched lips are painted because it's very difficult to get a color match powder coating.

I like paint, its a fraction of the costs and if done right, looks the same. I painted my wheels with semi-flat rustoleum and everyone things they're powder coated. Not to mention if you ever rub up on a curb:banghead:
you can easily touch it up.
I think most of our cars/wheels on here will never really see the abuse a powdercoating can withstand. Therefore, it's not necessary imo.
