OK, folks.

Here's the new look. The wheels are the same Kinesis K18s I've been running, but with brushed hoops and a satin black center (the wheels used to be a greenish/brown color). The exhaust tips are now polished stainless (used to be black), the Chevy Bow-Tie on the front is brushed (used to be black), and the hood is now body color except for the center cowl induction.

Many many thanks to the boys at Prodigy for all their help with paint. They rock! (especially Andrew :) )

And a shout out to Carter Hickman, who did the rendering 2.0 is based on.

JP, I actually like it better now. I was worried when you told me you were going to "soften" the look a bit to make it more marketable. But honestly, this is better. I hope it goes to someone who will drive the everluvin wee out of it.

I think it is safe to assume weather these cars fall on their face or break the bank, A couple grown men will shed a tear or two when the gable drops.

I think it hit John when he droped off his title and was told "Congratulations, you just sold your car!" For how much is the only question.

We were invited to a BJ Parade on the strip on Weds night. At first I was like Hell Yeah! Then I realized, it may be better if I just never drive it again!

I think whoever buys this car will spend the next several years discovering all the cool little details.

The rest of us will get to spend the next several years listening to John tell us how he used to have a hot rod.

John, in just two weeks, you will be "that guy".

Imagine RTTH 2010 -- Parsons walks up to somebody with a 67 Nova:

JP: "Yeah, I used to have one of those babies, but mine had a NASCAR spec built 427, 3-link, and could pull 1.2g's on the skid pad AND A/C, and it was in PHR, and and and....."

Nova Guy: "ummm sure, that's real nice story..........."

Car looks much better now. I think a set of brushed finish bumpers would finish the look for me.

Tony

parsonsj
09-27-2009, 04:40 AM
We tried the brushed finish bumper, as that was in the original plan to update the car. But didn't look right between the black grill and air dam, so we abandoned the idea. Here's a chop of that:

Nine Ball
09-27-2009, 04:43 AM
After seeing the 'chop, I would have to agree. Funny stuff!

parsonsj
09-27-2009, 05:16 AM
Yeah... we decided that the wheels, bow-tie, and exhaust tips gave the car enough "pop" that the bumpers didn't work like that. It was one of those things you had to see to make the decision.

Carter did all that work with the 'chops. He's amazing.

Car looks sharp and I hope you get your target amount. I loved the old look.
The hardest part in selling a car like that is what the new owner will do with it. It is hard for someone that does not build cars to understand that it is like a form of art. It was a design I am sure you went over in your head 100's of times and you executed it exactly as you wanted. I am sure it sucks to have to modify it in any way but you have to do what you have to do. Looks cool and glad you didn't go too far. Hopefully the new owner leaves good enough alone.

Now get some black screws for the headlight bezels. Should be worth an extra $1000.00.

Good luck!!

preston
09-28-2009, 08:19 AM
I don't think you should sell it. Don't quite understand that. OH well too late now. I can barely tell the difference between the new and old as far as general appeal in other words it looked good before, it looks good now.

Maybe I'm just jealous because I could never sell my car for real money, so I'm stuck endlessly rebuilding and changing it.

We are wiping down EmptyNest as we speak, all systems good, William is over touching up a couple little things on the interior. She is without a doubt better then ever. She could just as well be heading to SEMA!

It hurt a little bit when I fired her up, the tune is so good now, bliped it a few times and watched it try to jump off the stands, LOL! After changing batteries, and firing it up, Stereo kicked on after reprograming itself from the battery being unhooked, I had it cranked when I pulled it in, Rock Star was playing.

She is a rock star, I will miss her, but it is time for something new next year.

II Much was definitely one for the ages here on Pro-Touring.com. It's like The Mule; if you've been a member here for the past 6 or 7 years you will never forget it. It gave new meaning to the term "one off." Try as they may there will never be another one like it.

If this is the car that does it for you than you'd better have your ass in Vegas next week. Otherwise you'll be left having to build one yourself. And if that's the option your faced with than I hope you're as half crazy as Parsons was.

John, I don't mind telling you I'm real nervous for you. I know what you have invested in that car and I don't mean just money. It is a part of you. However it turns out I have huge respect for what you have built. It is one of a kind and has greatly influenced my last two builds.

No offense to Frank, but I am not as nervous for him. Probably due to the fact that building cars is his business and I am sure he can or has written some off as business/promotional.

Oh thanks Jeff, I see how you are, LOL!

Seriously, no one believes this when we say it, but John and I are both completely ready for anything horrible or fantastic as both of us are done and ready to move one. And we both feel this is the maximum amount the cars will bring whatever that number is. he has a plan, I have a plan, We might even do something together!

I am actually so calm today I am surprised myself. Of coarse I am feeling a little bit if sadness. Like anyone I would love to keep everyone I ever built. I feel like I would if selling puppies from a litter. But I think we will do OK. EmptyNest does have Vegas written all over it. Outrageous and flamboyant as it is.

I actually think my buddy Bob was more upset to see the cars go on the truck then Joh and I were. But Bob won't ever sell anything, even if they are in pieces for 20 years and completely useless, he feels safe having half a dozen cars, LOL! That reminds me, maybe John and I can do a project together and get one of Bob's cars running!

And I think John will do OK, I just wish EmptyNest went first so I could buy II Much if it goes to cheap, LOL! See what kind of friend I am John!

Good luck John! I still remember the first time I saw your car in a magazine.....It was just a pic of the car in your driveway in a build section. Thats the kind of car this build is, you'll always remember it (Unless your next project is that much better and we forget about it overnight!)

Yeah, Bob was pretty funny. He kept asking me over and over if I was sure about this. Then he went on and on about how he might be able to buy them. He called me twice, just to check on how I was doing.

He was really upset about it all.

As for me, I've got an empty garage. Well almost. I had Ro McGonegal's big-ass Chevy here for a couple nights while I fixed the wiring in his XFI. And now I've got my daughter's little 12 year old Saab there while I fix the A/C.

My son (age 13), who isn't the best at paying attention, asked me where the car was. He was astonished when I told him, "It's gone".

I just got off the phone with Dirc, the driver at Exotic Car Transport. He says he'll be there Monday night. I get there Tuesday morning. I'm not sure what the protocol will be when the car arrives. Dirc thinks the B-J people drive the cars into position, but he wasn't sure.

You can drive the car onto the block. Once on the block the BJ people take over and drive it off the block.

That's how it worked in Scottsdale.. Rev it loud and proud when you drive up there. Oh, and MAKE SURE it starts.. the Poison Dart was pushed onto the block and look how that went.

My Cuda sold at BJ Scottsdale. The only advice I can give, is to be sure not to tell potential buyers that the car will go off at 7-7:30 pm.Give them a bigger time window,if the car goes early, alot of times the buyers aren't in the tent.Got read the riot act by a couple of guys that wanted the car,and showed up at the time that I told them, but the car was already gone.Good luck,I'll be rooting for you(BIG MONEY). One can't stress that enough. I was out there a few months ago with a few guys. I have an iPhone on T-Mobile, a friend with AT&T. The AT&T coverage was extremely intermittent. Something good to know if you're planning on being there.

I dont have the answer to your question, but if you go to the Speed Channel (http://www.speedtv.com/programs/barrett-jackson-automobile-auction/) website, You might be able to see it online. I don't know for sure though, but it might be worth a shot.

Depends on your location. If it is 7:30 pt then for us in ct would put it on around 9:30, if it is 7:30 et, then it would be around 6:3- ct when they plan on cutting away. Should be online either way live.
