I would like to buy 8x17 front, 10x17 rear or 8x18, 10x18 inch wheels for my 1970 Oldsmobile 442, completely stock with 1-1½ lowered springs. What backspaces do you suggest and how wide rear tires will fit without rubbing? Do you have pictures of your Olds with interesting wheels (perhaps black mesh type wheels) to share with other 442 owners?

Is 1970 Oldsmobile 442 this rare in pro-touring scene that only one person has pictures of his ride?!? Please, send your intresting wheel pictures and data for 1970-72 Olds.

Love the 442's! We here at the shop have been throwing around the idea of doing a 442. As far as wheels and tires go, you could run up to a 20x10 in the rear with a 305. When your ready give me a call here at the shop and we can dial you in.

MINE!
Global West front coils, SC&C front suspension with tall UBJ & tall LBJs.
17x8 wheels with 255/45/17
4.5 Backspacing and a 1/4" spacer for caliper clearance
17x9.5 rear with 295/45/17 drag radials
Rear rims have 5.5" bs and running a 3/8" spacer for caliper clearance. Had to roll the 1/4 lip once I put the spacer on. With no spacer, would have been fine. 5.75 would have been even better.
These pics are with a Hotchkis coil in the back, sat too high. I installed Hyperco 11" 175 in/lbs coils in the back, brought it down about another 1.5" and it looks much better.

I'd like to see these on an Olds:

Unfortunately I think Gary is having trouble getting the first 3 people to buy a set so that he can get his first production run.

I hope to have some pics of mine soon. I ordered some Rushforths from Driverz Inc., but it's taking a little longer than expected. I went with a 19/20 combo, though. 305's in the rear. I can't wait to get them.

The 442 cars are great and the w30 my buddy had was really fast. Here at bonspeed we have done a number of the cars with 18x8.5 front and 18x10 rear. Call us and we can help you out.

Yup, I want to do a 442, or I really want to do a 70 GTO if/when we start a new project. SWEET on 19x8s and 20x10s, and sitting down on SpeedTech Suspension. (drool)

I think a lot of people would buy these rims, but the price! You can buy a lot of very nice rims for cheaper than what these go for.

True, but then they won't be SSIII's either. ;)
Really, the price on his billet SSIII's aren't all that out of line compared to other custom billet wheels.
I know Gary worked his butt off trying to get the prices down but in the end, this is the best he could do.

Streetsmart Classic Super Stocks are 'teh sexy'. I wish good fortune on Luke and the fellas in these hard times. If you are looking for a Super Stockish look, you can gander at the Hopster. I forget who provided this pic. IIRC It came from an OldsGmail member. The gold'paint' was photshopped.

i like the 442's but i would never but 18's on it. Id go 20's all the way around. Fill up the wheel space with more rim instead of tire.
