Hello,

I have been looking at buying a set of wheels for my 72 SS chevelle and wondered if anyone knew what I can fit with stock Tubs.

18x10 ? 19x10 ? 19x12 ? Rear
18x10 ? 18x8 ? Front?

thank you for any advise
Chris

I think the same as my GTO, 10" max rear, 11" POSSIBLY with some massage and on the front 8" I have seen, but that is it. others can chime in, still looking for rims for my 68 GTO, so basically same body. I have a set of 15" Centerlines and tires for sale in New Jersey for $500 :-)

from the research and phone calls I have made (site sponsors)
you can run a 9" wide up front and a 10 out back with no problem. 11" out back would be a tight squeeze and would require no margin for error.

I will be running 20 x 10 with a 315/35 20 and up front 19 x 9 up front with a 275/35-19.

8s and 10s are very comfortable, but we have pushed it to 9s and 11s.

We have 18 X 8 and 18 X 10.5 on the Bull Run Racer, We wanted a little more rubber around the rim on the Bull Run car due to the bad roads we knew we would encounter on the 3000 mile race, we wanted the cushion for our backs and the rims. So we went with 245/ 45 /18 Front and 285 / 40 / 18 rear. Chevelle (A Bodies) soak up these taller tires pretty easy with their large wheel wells.

Here is that Bull Run Racer described above. if I can be of any help feel free to call.

I am running an 18x9 with 275/35/18 up front and on the rear I am running an 18x10 with 295/30/18. I don't have any issues and I think I could go a little bigger on the rear if I wanted to.

Yes a 18x10 will fit using a 5.5 inch backspacing with no problem

You can run a 9" upfront with a 275 and a 10" outback with up to 305. Pretty much our standard setup for the 68-72 A Bodies.

275s on a 9.5 up front, and 315s on an 11 in the rear... careful measuring, and good lateral-location of the axle.

I've been posting this for a while http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/fitting_tires_wheels/index.html the info is old but still relevant the biggest wheels they used in the article are 17's. For every 1" added in rim size go down 1 series size. This will keep the overall diameter roughly the same IE. 275/40/17 is roughly the same as 275/35/18. I also use this http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html to help figure overall tire diameter of different size tires.

I fit a 17x9.5 with a nitto drag radial 315/35-17 on a 5.5 backspacing front and rear. Im actually going to try to fit a 11" or 12" wide rim in the back with a 335. I think I have enough room. Take plenty of measurments.

Exactly what Driverzinc set me up with 18x9/18x10 275/35/305/35 w/5.5 front b/s & 5.75 rear b/s...fit's like a charm.
