I am in Vancouver Canada. The car is from Alberta . It was built by the old owner and through vex performance in Calgary. They are an import shop, explains why many of the mods are parts you find on gtr/supras etc.

Looking back, a build thread would have probably generated some interest. When all of this got started we didn't think a 3rd gen TA would be accepted as "pro-touring" of any sort. I'm happy to see its been fairly appreciated... however in lieu of that (and because I'm lazy)...the car has its own FB page... https://www.facebook.com/DragonladyGta it gets updated fairly regularly ;)

My suspension is installed and so far I think it drives better than stock. The factory shocks were definitely toast though. The car has only 33k on it and is very clean. I confirmed the powder coat color yesterday for my Boze wheels. Can't wait to get them. I also did Stillen front rotors and pads all around plus Goodridge stainless lines. Stops better than stock but still not where I would like, especially for the track. (road course not drag)

I parted my orange 88 to concentrate on my 71 build, which feels kinda lame. :)
I mean, my 71 will never stand out against the others, and the 88 certianly would have, mostly do to the fact, you see fewer.
But I've always liked the 71 best. My first car was a 71, of course back then it was a "street car", typical 11 second car for the time. Certianly NOT pro touring, but it did it's job in my small town if you catch my drift.
These days, I want my 71 to be a REAL driver I can take my family anywhere in.
While not going for the overall visual "style" of current builds, I am going for the true function of a pt car.
Anyway, 3rd gens are starting to take off for sure.

My 92 Formula track mule. I run it in the local Time Attack events. It's about mid-pack for performance, just a tick behind a local 2013 Boss Mustang. Has a TPI 383 with a T56, LS1 brakes, cut WS6 springs, Koni yellows, misc suspension upgrades for stiffness, and AC delete, and is a riot to drive. Everyone watching says it's the best-sounding car out there. It's not real pretty, but I tell people 3 gallons of paint weighs 30 lbs and I can't afford the weight.

They are a touch short, but still looks great. Drop it and inch, and it will have a killer killer stance. When you wear out that set of tires, put that 275/35 up front, and step up to a 295/35 in the rear :)

Every generation camaro goes thru the trailer park period where they are just clapped out crap. About 20 years later nostalgia come in and the good cars surface and the crappy ones get restored. When the third gen were new, no one wanted 78-81 camaro or transams, they were all in the trailer park stage. I've owned multiple f body's 1, 2 ,3 generation. If you like 3rd gens, get one now, they will go up in price, buy a lot of spare parts cheap they're available.

Tom these are 14" and I wanna say it 1.25"w, and its gonna take the 18" wheels I have to fit them. Baer requires 18" in their statement, but I bet with the right wheel you could go smaller if needed.

Yeah that set up is a complete kit. Front and rear. In the picture the spring set up on the left is the rear, and the one on the right is the front set up.
I haven't contacted them to see if they would sell just a front kit, but from my understanding they will only sell as complete kit... I plan on mini-tubbing and need to run a coil over set up at that time, so no sense buying a rear set up I won't use.

Well I'm putting the brakes on my LS swap until after CO Nationals and USCA events out here in CO. So I brought the old girl in for some of the maintenance, and upgrades that I was planning during engine swap that could be beneficial for any of the summer events. Installed new centerlink, inner tie rod ends, and Baer bumpsteer kit. Replaced the upper strut mount spherical bearings, and gave them a quick polish while removed. Installed improved rear sway bar mount that is not binding with my 9" rear end, and finally I installed my Ground Control weight Jack spring set up. The rear spring perch is giving me fits and will need to be modded with the Moser housing... Right now its a lift kit back there LOL!

Brandon,
At least with the Moser 12 bolt, the rear weight jacks are side specific. Ours went in with no issues except I had to re-order the rear springs in a shorter height and stiffer rate to get what we were looking for. And the adjustment is still rolled as low as it will go. At least the torque arm is self clearancing into the floor pan with just a dent instead of punching an actual hole.
Now to start modifying the next 3rd gen to stop and turn better to see how a seriously boosted car handles the events.

Tom my Moser housing has PA racing PHB mounts, and the coil spring "cups" on the housing stick up 2.5" versus the factory .5" so it sits a full 2" higher before any adjustment is made, and only going up haha! I think I'm gonna chop the top off the coil cups to correct the height. That should get me pretty close to where I was.
I was surprised how much the torque arm mount massaged the tunnel, but no holes haha!
Are you not gonna let Valerie have all the fun now?

Nope, he's not really into driving the things, just building them ;)
We've already had the discussion. Besides, trying to get 2 of them to an event that isn't local gets tricky.

The rear coil spring mounts on the 12 bolt axle are tall enough to go all the way to the adjuster ring on the weight jacks. Maybe next time I have the axle dropped for some reason, I'll measure and see if they actually are deeper than the weight jack piece is tall.
Factory torque arm would probably be fine. The beefy mounting flange on the aftermarket ones like to hit the floorpan once you start to lower the cars though.
And, like Val said, getting two to an event is more work than I really want to do. It's been tried a couple of times. And I do enjoy building them (and keeping them in one piece) more than beating on them. This one might be different if I can teach it to whoa as well as it goes. Finally started working on mine this passed month. Maybe I can get a picture posted once I get it one color, but it's a long ways off from mods like I'm seeing here. I haven't started a build thread for mine yet here at Pro Touring. Just got one going over at thirdgen.org.

Trying to get mine even running, haha. Between 3 rebuilt power steering pumps that leak or don't pump (#4 is sitting in a box ready to go in, but I've lost motivation), and a gummed up fuel tank that clogs fuel filters every 12 minutes, I've moved onto other projects for the time being!

We'll find out once it gets cool enough to drive it again.
Understand the two car thing. I did that a few times for car shows with my convertible. Happy to not have to do that anymore. Yeah my factory one cleared fine, but the adjustable one definitely hit the floor haha!
Looking good Brandon. I'm super jelly that you are still driving yours this summer.
I think it was a good call. I recruited a buddy to help me sling mud under the hood, so with more time comes a better outcome :) Your turbo hot side is looking amazing! Can't wait to see that come together!

Yeah it got smacked up really good. Glad the cage and safety equipment worked. I'd like to know if they got any useable information out of it before the wreck. Be interesting to compare lap times with some of the more famous test mules.

I'm swapping mine, and have every part I think I'm gonna need, but I don't have a thread. I will be starting the actual swap after Goodguys in Sept. For the most part the typical electrical wiring issues are the biggest headache most seem to encounter. There is people making plug and play harnesses to help with that. Hawks third gen sells their stainless longtube swap headers, and seem to be the most popular option with swappers. There is an ebay version of these for just over $300 that is nearly identical.
I know you googled, but get on Thirdgen.org (TGO) and cruise some of the build threads there. You will see that some make it appear very easy, as other have headaches with all sorts of things. I think a lot of the time the headaches come from not doing something right the first time, or personal fabrication issues.
Here is a link to the LS/LTX swap threads http://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-lsx/

I'll second what Brandon said about researching this on www.thirdgen.org. There is a great deal of information and build threads there. Or feel free to ask questions in this thread and those of us that have done the swap will freely answer your questions. If the car was originally an automatic, you obviously have more work than if the car is a factory 5 speed car but this is a swap that has been done many times and is well documented on thirdgen.org
We documented most of our build on Facebook when we set up a page for the GTA. There are definitely ways that are more budget friendly than others and depending on emissions and inspection requirements there may be things you have to do that I didn't. Main advice I can give is take your time, do lots of research on www.thirdgen.org, ask lots of questions on here and on thirdgen.org, gather your parts, and then do the swap. Wiring will be the piece you have the most fun with.

There is a member named, Pocket, that has built many of them. I think that there was a time he quit and was un-reliable with them, but I have seen he is back and selling again. From the guys that I know that used his harness they have all been pleased.

I bought a stand alone harness from Speartech. Very simple. Plug and play is over rated IMHO, there are like 5 wires to connect on a stand alone harness.

Also used a Speartech harness. Very few wires to actually splice into the old harness or even wires from the old harness. And very well made. Depending on your donor car, that harness may be almost 15 or more years old. Speartech (and a couple other vendors) can get you an all new one for under $800.
The most fun was stripping out all the unneeded wires from the original harness since the body and engine harnesses connect at the grounds on the back of the block.

The Raymond's Performance 3rd Gen represented pretty well at the Holley LS Fest last weekend, 9th place overall in the Grand Champion points, 4th overall in Track X and 7th overall in AX just .039 seconds out of 4th position. Seeing as if it was first fired up thursday before the evnt and no shakedown it should be fun to watch this thing after the bugs are worked out...117344117345117346117347

Build information on the car should be interesting... fuel cell, interesting exhaust routing, why the 82-84 hood with 85-90 GFX, tow hook on the front and rear through the covers.

Funny, just did something for my 3rd gen today... ordered tires. Tried these Boss 338's off my S10 on the 82 one day, and they worked well. So I bought another set of 338's a few months ago, and just ordered some BFG Comp II's this morning. The 245's were in stock, but the 275's had to be shipped in from Texas as they're apparently on backorder, so I'll have then on, NEXT weekend.
My last few months have been going through the entire fuel system. I've NEVER seen a fuel system this nasty, worse than my 58 Edsel even. Rebuilt the carb, new tank, modified sender (no carb sender available). Runs well now, so the dry rotted tires were my limitation. I might actually start putting miles on this thing now!

Looking at getting my blue 89 back up and running. I have the TPI blues. In my neck of the woods I found if I install an engine that wasnt originally offered in the car it can be registered as a "hotrod" and therefore subject to much lower emission standards. So after much deliberation I have a vortec 400sbc longblock sitting around in my shop that I will tune to 425hp/500tq with a FITech throttle body FI set up, keep the WC T5. That way all my A/C, trans and all accessories will bolt right in. LS swaps are nice but a lot of trouble($$) Want to make a nice street car out of it......BTW anyone know the wheel/tire/susp combo on this white bad boy?

Dude what is the plan with that? That looks like it could be all sorts of fun. I'm pretty sure Centerline or someone is remaking those wheels in billet modern sizes... Could be really cool to "throw back" with those...

Right now I'm about to start assembling my motor. 383: Lunati sledgehammer series Crank, 6.0 rods, RHS 200 runner 64cc heads, RHS port intake,FAST ez EFI, LT1T-56.
I got those champs from a friend and they are 16x8. I have seen the newer design and love them. Other things are planned but I want to get it running after 3 yrs on stands.

Took the Players car out to Castrol Raceway last weekend... would love to say it was a blast but teething pains resulted in a day similar to the SCCA Nationals - countless hours towing for four laps. sigh. Back to the CMC car Monday...

Thanks, it does seem that way. I used to race UMP modifieds and decided it cost way to much and moved to street cars and I am having a blast doing it. That was the second time out with the car shaking it down still but it is going to be pretty competitive.

Their parts are interesting except for:
1) Price. At $8000 for the IRS the market is extremely limited. Especially when the setup forces the exhaust to be dumped in front of the axle.
2) Fitment. In addition to the IRS having fitment issues with the exhaust, Heidts didn't check their front suspension components for fitment with factory accessory drives so it was unknown when the items hit the catalog if you would be required to use an aftermarket accessory drive to use the front suspension pieces.
I know both of these because I spent over a hour with the engineers and owner of Heidts at SEMA last year critiquing the pictured car at their request. The biggest issue is probably price as most thirdgen owners won't spend that much on a rear axle assembly.

In response to your critique here are some updates to what you saw at SEMA last year
Price is $6995 a little bit less than $8k but take the cost of a fully built complete 9" rear end from lets say Currie or Moser plus the sum of all the upgrade parts someone would purchase that this replaces, like coil overs, brake upgrade, t-arm, lca's, PHB. relocation brackets & so on then the price gets more comparable. The downside is that its an investment all at once where as if your building the solid axle you can purchase the parts separately.
The fitment issues you reference with the exhaust are null I don't know why you were told it couldn't be done.
You do not have to dump the exhaust in front of the axle It has been installed passing below the diff and when I find the pictures ill post them.
I can also say that the front suspension does clear all factory drives, and chevy engines including LS. Testing has been done to verify.
Hopefully this info helps

My comments were based on discussions held in the Heidt's booth at SEMA last year. If they have done more work on it and verified those items aren't issues, it has happened since then as a result of those discussions.

Thanks brother! How is your car coming along?
It's coming along, slowly but surely. Was able to do a handful of solo events this summer and have alignment pretty well dialed in. Stepping down from 4.10's to 3.73's this winter as the 4.10's are just a little too much. Have my original rear on a stand freshly blasted and painted with fresh LS1 rear discs. Also, want to upgrade my seats but then I'll need harnesses which means I need a roll bar (SCCA doesn't allow a harness bar in 'verts without a roll bar or factory rollover device) so we'll be installing that soon as well.
Hoping I can get through next season on the Nitto's and will hopefully be able to step up to 18's and a set of Rival's for 2018. Or, BFG could throw me a bone by coming out with Rival's in a 275/40/17!
Regardless, been having a blast with it!

Completely custom built suspension with a track width 6 inches wider than stock front and rear on a one off set of coil overs, one off carbon fiber splitter and wicket bill spoiler, my Rs.R hood Louver set and my alumnium Rs.R rear blown diffuser. 295 30 r888 front and rear.
Morrow, I think we've chatted on thirdgen. Your build looks sick, love it!

Richard, the Formula looks great. Saw you sold the miniram a while back, what's your set up now?
Ideally, I'd like to take a Formula and modify like Morrow's camaro. Both look great guys!

Lots of people have done a mini-tub on these. Most have been for the drag racing side of things, but its the same thing. Making space for bigger tires. LS1-IROC mini-tubbed his white IROC and is running a 335.
LSA blower car... Damn errbody running LSA blown 3rd gens. I'm excited to see what you come up with. Holler if you run across something you think I could help with

I tubbed mine a few years ago. No one makes a kit for 3rd gen yet. I didn't want to use the standard 4th gen tubs because they have a square shoulder on them for big ass drag tires. I wanted a rounded shoulder to better match the tire profile of the R888's. I fabricated mine using a hammer form I made out of wood. This also allowed me to keep all the interior plastics and still fit the 335's. I do believe I can fit the 345 drag radial as well.

Schwartz was supposed to be making a tub kit for these, but SInce Justina's car got finished up I haven't heard a word about more 3rd gen parts coming from them. Paging Dale!!! Anyway it would be really nice to have an option outside hand forming out own tubs, using trailer fenders, or not tubbing at all... Someone needs to step up.

My rears are 18x12 with a 8.5" BS on stock width rear. Brandon had his rear axle shortened 1" per side if I recall correctly. Not sure what he's running for BS.
