What is everyone using for sound deadner now?

I know a couple years ago we were getting the fatmat cheap, but they went out of business.

I see jegs is selling it now under their brand. Is this the best deal going now?

This is the dynamat type stuff.

I thought about getting a bucket of lizard skin, but its a bit pricey.

What about the diy truck bed liner stuff?

I am interested in hearing thoughts on this as well. I just started tearing apart my interior and first to go in is the sound proofing. That lizard skin looks like good stuff, but i wonder about the heat from the exhaust. My exhaust is pretty close to the floor pan. I have the same concerns regarding the bedliner material. We have some stuff down at the shop that is called raptor, a spray in bedliner, but I can't find a temperature listing on it. Snakeater

I've used em all, fatmat, dynamat, and others. SecondSkin is the best products I've ever used. Fatmat was cheap, but not without its issues. It slides around when hot and isnt that good of a insulator.

Second skin stuff is very well put together. And works as advertised. They have a spray on product that is very competitive. Give Ant a shout.

I was goin to use SEM Truck Bedliner spray in stuff until I got concerned about the heat from the exhaust and I called them. Was told it could handle up to 200 Deg intermittently and I think it's also quite flamable so I gave up on it. Bought some Second Skin Spectrum and Firewall instead and am in the process of applying it. I am far from seein it in action though. Ant over there was very helpful and knowledgeable.

I have no experience with Dynamat but I just put the Second Skin Damplifier Pro kit in my Nova. I was very impressed with how it laid down, and it has done an excellent job of quieting down my interior, especially the exhaust drone.

I haven't noticed any excessive heat issues, either. Compared to the price of Dynamat, I was very pleased overall.

Damplifier pro. If there is another brand you are considering try to get samples of both and compare for yourself. My 2000 Camaro has damp pro on the inner and outer skins , 2 layers on the inner. I used sprayble damplifier over the damp pro and a layer of ensolite over that. It is a little over kill but my mids sound absolutely incredible and the doors make a really nice thunk when they close. If your not placing your mids in your doors I'm sure 1 layer over the inner and outer skin will be more than enough.

Glad to hear that Second Skin is getting thrown around in this thread!

As far as I know Fatmat is still in business. They were bought by the supplier they used to buy from. A roofing company. Which is why you hear the complaints of the stuff shifting and failing in high temperatures. Fatmat is asphalt. Not good for cars. Just be sure to stay away from any type of sound deadener that comes on a roll. It is common trade knowlege that if it comes on a roll, it is a roofing tape being rebadged as a sound deadener.
Real sound deadeners that are designed to go in cars come in sheets. Not on rolls. There is not a sound deadening company in the industry that makes a constraint layer damper in roll form.

Bed liner is not go either. Well, not for sound deadening anyhow.
Great for protection, btu will no nearly nothing to reduce structure borne noise.

Lizard Skin has 2 products. Both are awesome.
They have one for noise and one for heat.
The heat coating will do nothing for noise and the noise coating will do nothing for heat. So if you go with Lizard Skin, be sure you buy the right product for the job. If you use both, apply the noise coating first, then the heat coating.

We have a few product that rock as well
If anyone has questions about them call me up

I will be happy to answer any sound deadening questions, regardless if you use Second Skin or not.

Correct. 1 layer of Damplifier Pro is usually enough for most cars. A lot of the car audio guys double up, but really, 1 layer is fine, as long as you use a barrier on top of it. Something like Luxury Liner Pro is idea for blocking out road noise, engine noise and exhasut drone.

Most guys that use our noise coating as a seam sealer go with the thicker, Spectrum Sludge option.

Sludge is more like... Peanut butter and can go on super thick. It will do the trick for sure.

      Hey Ant,

I have a bunch of Lizard skin (Sound Control and Ceramic) left over from doing my undercarriage. Was thinking of coating my interior floors and door panels with it.

Would adding Damplifier Pro on top the Lizard skin reduce vibration even more? Or would I get more bang for my dollar with say Luxury Liner pro for noise reduction in combination with the Lizard Skin?

If I am looking to reduce both vibration, heat and outside noise to a minimum what would you recommend on older cars like 1st Gen Camaros?

      Thanks!

What product is right for me? I don't want carpet! But I do want some level of heat/noise protection. I was thinking of bed liner but if there is a better product out there that looks good and will hold up, please fill me in!

      Group buy!

I am wondering what would be best for my car.

In order of my priorities are,

      1. low weight

      2. sound control

      3. temp control

      What would be best?
