View Full Version : Widest Tire without frame Notch
Does anyone know if you can fit a 315 tire and 17x11 wheel on a 69 Camaro without notching the frame. If i just push the inner tubs to the frame will I have a clearance issue? Really don't want to do the notch.

Not a 315, but that's what I did and I'm running a 305 on a 18X11 wheel. Didn't even have to move my leaf springs. Hope that helps.

I don't know how much different the 69 is from the 68. On a 68 you'll only gain roughly an inch of clearance. You're limited to what you can fit at the rear (where you'll contact the frame rail first) That seems like an awful lot of work for so little gain.
I started out doing exactly as you mention until I saw how little I would actually gain. Now I'm going into the frame rail a little ways, although not the full 2.75 that the DSE mini-tubs do.

I don't know what your plans are for the car? If you intend to really push the car, make sure you leave some room for body shift and wheel flex. Otherwise you will have a tire rub guaranteed.
Thats the info I was looking for, looks like i need to go all the way in or not at all. The notch just makes me feel like an inexperienced body man could really mess things up.

Got any pics? Is it real tight or is there a little wiggle room, since Vegas69 brought up a good point.
Thanks

Don't have any pics, but I'll try to get some for ya. I think there is some wiggle room and unless your really pushing it, I don't think there's gonna be much movement side to side. Now this is with my springs still in the factory location. You move them inward and your fine. I actually have a finger or two distance between the tire and framerail. I'll look at it again and let ya know and try to get a decent pic.
