Alrighty Boys and Girls. The death threats (https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32325) have started to become less frequent over the weekend, and I feel I can now reward your understanding of my twisted humor with a short story and a ton of pics.
Those who are not aware of my (never-ending-never-finished) Project 50/50 Camaro- here is the cliff notes:
Sept 1999- Car is sent to Wayne Due's Chassis shop in Maryland, WA for a complete tube chassis build based on a C5 corvette.
Mar 2002- chassis is completed and sent to Tustin, CA for carbon Fiber body kit prototyping.
April 2003- car is rescued from crooked body kit shop and delivered to secondary garage for completion of body molds.
Feb 2004- Car is again rescued from 2nd crooked body kit garage and trailed home. All bare steel is covered in rust, vehicle condition is poor.
Feb 2004-October 2008- Car sits in garage under car cover. I try to forget about all the money & time lost on project and wince every time people bring up my failed car on the internet.
Nov 2008- car is trailer to Ironworks in Bakersfield for some modifications to the sheetmetal and rollcage.
So there is the VERY condensed version. It could go on and on for almost 4 pages, some good humored times, some slit your wrist times, some kill everyone within a 3 mile radius times.
Rodger is one of the few people I trust for my personal projects. We met in 2006 and I just knew that this man had talent and determination. Seeing the work come out of his shop for the past 2 years and the numerous 2 hour phone calls we've had discussing our ideas, Rodger suggested I let him have a crack at the car.
He 'stole' it from my storage space during the week of the 08 SEMA show and took it back to Bakersfield. When it arrived the roll cage was promptly cut out of the vehicle. I'll show you why in a few posts....
Here is the car as it sat under the car cover for the past 4 years. All the brown is surface rust from being outside near the ocean for over a year.
Engine setback and firewall:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/11/2z8uu6r-1.jpg
Rear transaxle cover, rear main roll cage hoop and floor:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/11/j96ek4-1.jpg
Engine compartment with front down bars that don't clear the tires under full lock:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/11/w21yfd-1.jpg
So it needs a slight re do in a few spots. No big deal. More to follow....

The roll cage. It was built to standards not completely approved by any racing sanctioning body. One of the reasons for not passing tech would be this little gem:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/11/j6rlfn-1.jpg
Yes. That is indeed an entire Sharpie marker stuffed into the non-notched-grand-canyon-sized gap of the tube joint. That is just one of many slight blunders of fabrication that went into my $14K chassis and roll cage.
Other fun facts include:
Inner frame too narrow to fit an actual exhaust system.
Front down bars hit both front tires when turning.
Frame rails made of 2x4 and 3x3 .120 wall metal (tank chassis)
Front A pillar down tubes leave under 10 inches of room for 3 pedals
Large gaps in joints of roll cage
Sheetmetal doubled up in most places for strength (tank floor)
Chassis could be built lighter and stronger with even lower ride height.
Here are more cool pics from the cage:
Don't worry about the MIG wire, it will add strength over time.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/11/v4sbi0-1.jpg
What?!? Seriously? Come the 'F' on....
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/11/2hmodio-1.jpg
How does this get the thumbs up to be shipped to a client?

Tank frame by Wayne. None of you can tell me that Wayne didn't build it strong enough. He used some serious wall thickness on the frame rails and added beef like it was going out of style. The car was a bit over weight for my standards, so it got put on a diet.
The 50/50 Camaro before it goes onto the frame table for its new chassis:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/11/2wm2mja-1.jpg
Here is the M1A1 Abrams C5 chassis:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/11/ziwsns-1.jpg
It had to be a bitch to cut that thing out in one piece. I'm surprised they were able to do so. If anyone would like it, make me an offer.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/11/212hg5g-1.jpg
Rodger and his crew have done a tube chassis once before and took some lessons from them to create this new tube frame. This is the rear. The front will be very similar. I think he shed 50% of the cars weight just by making a new frame for it.

So here is the money shot for me. I've never had a chance to put the HRE 542R wheels on the car before as I never purchased any tires. I plan to race this car so I figured get some tires that will do me right on the road courses.
I picked up some Michelin road race slicks from a former LeMans C5R Corvette to fir the 18x12 and 18x9.5 HRE wheels. Rodger mocked them up on the frame table now that the car is on it. Rocker to ground is 6.5 inches. Roof height will be about 47.5 inches from the ground.

Tyler,
I almost had Wayne make me a frame also. Thank god that didn't happen! I found out about Rodger when I saw his truck build on Lat-G and since he was fairly close to me I figured I'd go up and check out what he was doing. In the course of about 5 minutes of talking to him I knew he was the the guy for the job. He's one of the few that can tread the fine line of new school/old school. This is what got my car up to his shop. I knew he would take it to a level I couldn't even imagine.
Be careful! Now that it's their you're going to find out what is truly possible! LOL!
Congratulations! I know you're in good hands!
The only thing that sucks about all this is now us Nova boys are gonna get shoved back into the shadows! DAMMIT!!!! LOL!

Its funny how only acouple years go by,and the project seems obsolete {in your mind anyway}.Things really change from the time you start the project and the time you finish.Never saw the chassis pics before, but I like the tank chassis,it looks just like my mustang chassis.Crazy how this was the cutting edge when you started, and now 5 or 6 manufactures make c5 frames.Glad to see the thing being done,I always loved the project.Ron

11-27-2008, 10:57 AM
With the ride height we are using and the tire size the wheel tubs will take up that space pretty well. it also made removal of the stock upper wheel tubs easier. Plus with the theme Tyler wants to do I'm sure we will see Lots of Lexan and other attempts to lighten the car as light as possible. Tyler is already talking air jacks and other truely race inspire ideas.
Stay tuned

Nope that there is a grade 8 bolt, it dose not even need a tab to mount it. So a single shear tab is over kill already. (PLEASE READ THIS COMMENT IN A DEEP FOREST GUMP ACCENT)
I believe you have to finish something in order to ask if it needs to be "Fixed". Just to be clear we do plan to weld the chassis also which has not been done at this point either. We also plan to get some other tube locations figured so that we can incorporate the Transverse shock mounts into the tab that will go there. "TACK WELDS" are our buddies. Sorry if we are not good enough to think all this through before hand. Thanks

I'm trying to sell one of my 2 68 Camaros; either this one sells and funds the Chicane-LM project, or the Chicane sells and funds the 50/50 project.
EDIT: The black daily driven 68 (aka Chicane-LM) has been sold. 50/50 will once again move forward at Ironworks. I can't stress enough how important it is to work with the right shop. Rodger was beyond understanding, professional, and accommodating while I figured out what to do with a stalled out project. I hear all the time people saying how they can't afford high end shops like Ironworks; I'll tell you first hand you can't afford NOT to go to a shop of this caliber. How many re-do's have I had to do between the chassis shop and body kit? Two and three respectively, and after being burned over and over on this obsession I learned what makes a good shop.
Tune in as we crack open the vault that stores the 5-time-world-champion-of-stalled-projects, eleven-years-and-counting-in-the-making, lighter-weight-than-ever-before, 1968 Camaro known as 50/50.

People have asked about the plans and what work Rodger is going to do on the car.
When I started this project I had some radical ideas and styling touches that I wanted to put on the vehicle. The idea was like taking a well refined car- like a 997 twin turbo Porsche and integrate that into a 60's muscle car. The more I look back on what I was doing the more I want to scrap it. So one of the things I'm reversing is a few portions of the body kit. I still like the notch rear spoiler (that keeps getting copied) and my front air dam. I'm going to re-do the rocker panels, and I'm going to delete the C5 Euro tail light panel/diffuser. I think instead I'll add back in a set of Marquez rear tail lights into a bare carbon panel with a gas cap in the center.
Rodger will be finishing the frame, fully welding it to the car, add the floors, firewalls, and cage, and widen the rear 1/4 panels. If I don't go flat broke he will also do the new core support. At that point I will take possession of the car and finish off the light fab work- making a new dash, plumbing, mounting seats, pedals, steering column, wiring, brakes, and finally etting it prepped for paint.
I'm totally hooked on Steve Chryssos's Streetfighter type build, and after riding along in Scott Mock's 69 Camaro race car, I think that is right up my alley.
No more custom interior. No more carpet. Just pure race bred go fast, functional light weight stuff. Might have to make it more visually hardcore as well. Looking for inspiring race car pictures at the moment. Post up anything you have that you think would be cool on this car product or detail wise.

More visually hardcore is good! What are your plans for the drivetrain?
TitoJones
06-03-2010, 11:49 AM
Drivetrain wise just a nice N/A LSX engine. Might de-stroke it to a 302 cu in type to make it full on retro themed. I know that it will have the ATS Tri-Y headers in white ceramic coating (modified at the collector to clear the new frame) an ATS sidewinder accessory drive, and more than likely a Victor Jr EFI type carb manifold with the ATS coil relocation brackets and CF cowl air cleaner like on Ron's LS7 powered Mustang. I want the engine bay to be modern stuff with a retro race car theme.
Other touches will be Aero Catches on the CF hood, possibly a RedHead quick fill dry-break in the rear panel leading the the Fuel Safe, and of course Lexan NACA duct rear 1/4 windows. Might do a quick release body latch on the front air dam for easy access to trailers. Oh yeah, and F&R tow hooks.

It is good to hear you going in a different direction with the car. No custom injterior or carpet will make it easier to get finished sooner but the unfinished look might bug you sometimes which is why I went with an aluminum interior and am still on the fence about carpet that is velcro'd down and comes out in minutes at the track for the most part.
It is going to be interesting to see what you come up with for a radiator support. Lots of good things on some cars to get ideas from these days.
Now get that thing done so you can be as broke as the rest of us,lol.

If it'll work on your frame, AutoRad sells their alum core support all by itself. It goes with the light weight theme of this car and would make mounting the fenders a snap (along with Anvil CF fender braces)...

We are back baby! The car came out of it's metal coffin yesterday afternoon. It's a bit dirty, some tiny surface rust, but overall in better shape than I remembered. The car was even further along that I had known with the front suspension almost fully done.
The chassis table it has been mated with for over a year get slid out of the container.

The rear C5 Corvette Euro tail lights already look dated to me. It was cool 10 years ago, but now? Not so much. I'm going to make a new rear tail panel from a sheet of carbon that will use the Marquez Design billet 68 rear tail lights and maybe, just maybe I'll even add a RedHead dry break rear filler for the Fuel Safe where the stock gas cap lived.

Went to visit my car last week. Got some parts in for the build like these new Tilton floor mounted triple pedals.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/07/6egp7d-1.jpg
Got to check out the frame in person and check out the fantastic tube work.
The way they mounted the factory aluminum cradles is pretty sweet. If I need to repair anything I just pop the upper ball joints and shock mounts, and 8 cradle bolt and the entire suspension, drivetrain and engine unzip from the car.
Drivers side front cradle mount:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/07/34yv9s0-1.jpg
Same side, top view.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/07/2dt5093-1.jpg
Other cool details like how they made the tubing spacers integrate into the upper coil over mounts are pretty sweet.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/07/14t8neg-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/07/etdvg1-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/07/34j21p3-1.jpg
So the first of a few bummers was that since we are using the factory C5 cradles, suspension and engine placement I can't use the ATS Sidewinder accessory drive that I had been saving. The steering rack to balancer clearance will only allow use of the factory Y body accessory drive; without repositioning the engine further rearward, redoing the mounts, firewall and torque tube that is. I'm not willing to change that much stuff. I'd rather keep it factory in case I need a replacement part.
Second bummer is I had a set of ATS Tri-Y headers set aside for this car too, and with the crazy tubes catching the cradles and making the inner torque tube structure, there is no way these bad boys will fit either. We will see if Rodger can modify some tubes to make them clear, and if not both the Sidewinder and Tri-Y headers will be up for sale.
Next on the list is to wait for the Fuel Safe and Ron Davis radiator to arrive and they will make the floors, firewall, and radiator support. We are going to follow the C5R layout and tilt the top of the radiator toward the grill and allow it to vent out the hood via an extractor.
Should start seeing some progress around August.

In the 40 years (almost) that I've been driving, everything that I've driven has had the pedal pivot up under the dash. I'm curious as to how much of a difference there is in the "feel" of a floor mounted pedal system.

Hey Tyler, if you are going to have your hood extract that way, I know of a great hood hinge and latch setup that would work just perfect with the way it would need to close to seal around it easily. You should be able to integrate what it takes easily especially if you do it in carbon fiber.
I am glad to see you still have the car after all that has transpired over the years.

Well guys actually this has been the plan all along, Tyler bought these wheels years ago and I don't think has never had them bolted on this car, due to the fact they would not clear. The intentions are do pull the quarters front and rear to fulfill the desire look and spec.
As far as the being over weight, Let give you some idea of the differences in weight. A 1ft piece of 4x2 .125 wall rectangular tubing weighs just over 4lbs. A 1ft piece of 1.75 .125 round tube weighs just over 2 lbs. So for every 2 pieces of equal length 1.75" tubing it will equal 1 piece of 4x2 tubing.
So if you compare the weight of John's nova to Tyler's Camaro I bet his car will be lighter just due to the fact he will have less extras and More consideration for using light weight components.

What seat do you guys think for a street/track car?
I'd like a Sparco. Here are the 3 I was looking at:
Sparco Circuit seat for $870 each
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Sparco Pro ADV for $850 each
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Or the Sparco Corsa for $730 each.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The first two will limit my blind spot viewing on the street but are HANS compatiable and would offer the best protection for me, where as the Corsa would be great for street visibility, but not as safe in a racing environment.
Have any of you guys used any of these in a street/track car?

From just sitting in a few of the track seats like the first 2, I would say they are going to be kind of difficult to see traffic to the sides when driving around town. David and I had thrown around some ideas about making that part removable on a set of seats so you could pull it off when you were not on the track.
As for looks, I'd say go for comfort first. I would try to sit in as many seats as you can to see what fits your body the best. Some of the manufactures have different widths and 1" can make a huge difference in how comfortable you feel going through the corners (your one with the car, lol).

Tyler, I have the Sparco Pro2000 in my 68, which has about the same bolstering as the Corsa, if not a little less. It is very confidence inspiring to be absolutely planted into the vehicle. You will find that egress into and out of the vehicle requires a lot of gymnastics though, because the distance between the sill and the roof is relatively small compared to other cars. It would be truly a pain in the butt to deal with the head guards on those other seats. Is your floor raised? If your torso is long you may get darn close to the headliner depending on your seat mounts.
Also, at the track, plenty of guys are using Hans devices without the head guarded seats. Since it will be street driven I don't think it's worth it.
I have gotten a lot of crap from tech guys about the seat-back not being bolted to a roll cage harness bar. These seats are torsionally flexible, so to install them properly they need to be held on the backside. The side effect of this is that you cannot move the seats fore/aft without loosening some bolts.

Not only that but you'll need something that will be comfortable from the back seat since those pedals are pushed so far back.
Hey Tyler, since you've got the pedal assembly together have you put any thought into the master cylinder sizes for the brakes, 7/8, 15/16 and whether or not you're going to run remote reservoirs?

I think it would have made more sense if I said they (the pedals) looked pushed forward into the cabin, maybe it is perspective but they looked close to being almost as far forward as the front of the door, and Tyler isn't exactly short so I had visions of him cruising around sitting as far back as where the back seats used to be. In any case I'm sure you could use some "better than bolts" metal adhesive spray to put them exactly where they need to be, or have you not come out with that yet? :)

I gonna have to agree with matt. To me it does look like the pedals are too close to the driver. Not only that, they look to far to the left.
When you bolt that seat in the pedals dont look like they will be centered. Amir Rosenbaum (Spectre Racing) had same prob after setting engine back in his '70 El Camino. He has to drive that thing with his legs to the left.
Way to uncomfortable in a road racing environment and something to consider before you get to far along.
Just my two cents.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/ShopPicsAugust2010079-1.jpg
That's a 48 truck parked next to a much more modified 48 truck. The amount of metal work and details on it are insane. I'm impressed as hell every time I see it and I'll wait patiently until Brysen can begin his very skilled craft on my fenders and quarter panels. I will eventually run out of money, but I think my deposit will cover the car being set down on its own wheels and tires, with a widebody treatment, full welded chassis, floor, firewalls, and the radiator, fuel cell, and interior items (Seats, column/wheel, pedals) mounted and ready to deliver.
So for now I wait.

Rodger teased me with 3 pictures today. Progress will come faster in the next month but we've been debating over the widebody for a while now. Do we add very obvious flares? Do we widen the car? I spoke to John McBride about this and he sketched out some ideas; I had a hard time picking any of them and ultimately picked none of them. While the flares in my head would be as amazing as the ones on the Porsche GT3R Hybrid (Google image THAT car.) when seen on paper it just didn't make me fall in love.
Starting sketch (based off my old black 68 Camaro) with factory track width:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/f1i1ht-1.jpg
Flare concept number one:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/dg2n9i-1.jpg
Flare concept 2 and 2A:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/27y8zuu-1.jpg
So we decided after all the back and forth, all the idea and reference material we are just going to wide body the car vs flare the wheel wells.
Rodger had the boys get out the sander and cut off wheel.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/ShopPicsDecember2010018-1.jpg
Then they cut out the 'eyebrow' and placed it where it needs to be to clear the meats.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/ShopPicsDecember2010026-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/ShopPicsDecember2010027-1.jpg
A few more cuts and then lots of patching, metal working, and grinding and we will be able to set it down on all 4 wheels for the first time in 10 years. I need to get my Sparco seats and Woodward column so that we can position me in the car and then the last of the floor/firewall can be built. I hope to have it a roller by spring.

More updates. Remember- I did not choose any of the renderings to base the wide body off of. Ultimately I didn't fall in love with any of them, so we are doing a combo of a stretch with a flare. Think of a combo of the way the SCAR camaro (http://blogs.hotrod.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/67/files/1967-camaro-wins-goodguys-2010-ridetech-street-machine-of-the-year-award/29834086.jpeg) was done with a bit of the Gulf Camaro. (http://www.racehome.com/images/camaros/dynowestcamaro3.jpg)
Here is the car getting mocked up with flares only; we will be cutting the fenders and quarters much more to reduce the flare size and make it have more of a 'designed' look vs 1971 flares. NOTE: These are Photobucket hosted, so if you see a red X the site is blocked or we exceeded bandwidth (not likely.)

I wish it was really just that simple. The chassis is already mated to the car, so this option is not even possible this late in the game, not to mention custom front and rear glass and all the other items that need to be stretched (like grill/trim/etc.)

Last shot for the paper flares. I was surprised to see how nice the fenders and rear quarters actually were after stripping them down to bare metal. They are so nice I think we should destroy them.
Here it is with the old carbon fiber side skirts with the side exit exhaust port. The new frame will not allow the side exit so I will re-make the side rocker trim to flow better with the new flares and front air dam. Poor shop kid had to lay under that jig and hold them up for this shot.

Don't get too close to Rodger, he will cut you up.
So he started the fender cuts to reduce the flare bubble size and make it appear more subtle.
He stripped the fender and rear 1/4 down to bare metal and sliced it at the 9, 12, and 3 O'clock positions to pull the body line outward.

My only advise I will give to anyone doing this, is to put 1/4" spacers on the wheels before molding the flares. Build the lips so there is plenty of room at full lock, then take the spacers off when your done. You just can't imagine how much flex there can be at speed on the road course, and you don't want blister that new paint while leaning on it. I built mine with spacers, and I've never had an issue, but I'll bet you couldn't put a credit card between the tire and the inside of the fender at the Oak Tree at VIR. Just my 2 cents. I asked Rodger to shoot some pics of the rear tires as they looked to be a bit stretched over the rear 18x12.5 HRE wheels. I was supposed to have a 30/65-18 Michelin road race slick with a section width of 320mm on 12x18 wheel. Overall diameter should be 65cm. Looks a bit under that. Fronts should be 24/64-18 and have a section width of 254 mm on an 9.5x18 wheel. Should be overall diameter of 64cm. Those look small as well. I'm guess that if I ever put on real street tires that they will be even wider than these used slicks I purchased. Does anyone know where to find new Michelin race slicks in the above sizes new?
Here's a shot standing on the work bench trying to get both rear tires in view:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/ShopPicsDecember20100081-1.jpg
The rear flare progress was made just before the holiday. They welded in a new bent and broke section into the area where they cut the quarter panel (9 and 3 o'clock positions) to re-make a wider creased body line. They ground it smooth and are getting ready to form the flare area.

Here you can see the old wheel well 'eyebrow' being re-used and in its new position. The rear 1/4 panel has been flared out at the body crease to make the flare a bit smaller. This is looking down the car on the drivers side.

The car is getting the widebody treatment because of the trackwidth. If I changed wheels I could run a 10.5 or 11 inch wheel with a 295 or maybe 305 if my springs were stiff enough. There is room to go in another inch and out about 1/2 an inch; I've had the HRE wheels for almost 6 years now, so I'm not going to replace them anytime soon.
Back to our widebody fabrication, already in progress...
Front fender is coming along nicely. Overall it makes it seem like the car is higher than it really is. Once we set it on the ground and get it off the jig I think it will really be impressive looking.

After jzr made the comment about my tiny manhood front tires I had Rodger mock up a rear C5 wheel in my front. Fits fine, but the back spacing was off a bit. I could do a 10.5 or 11 inch wheel it appears and still have clearance; just need to nail the backspacing and offset. If I can get rich soon, I'll get a set of dedicated track wheel in 18x11 and 18x12.5. That will show everyone I mean business.
C5 rear Wagon wheels my car rolled into Ironworks on to check clearance on a wider wheel:

Alright. So the taller side wall of a street radial looks a bit better than my super cool-whiz-bang- Michelin slicks. Rims are ugly though.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/ShopPicsDecember20100011-1.jpg
Nearly completed metal work on front flare/widebody treatment. It's almost 4 inches wider per side now. Think about that for a second. Total width of the car is now 7.5 inches wider than factory. Over a half a foot. Damn.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/ShopPicsDecember20100032-1.jpg
Henry makes it look so simple. New body creases, flared wheel wells, all very nicely done in bare metal.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/ShopPicsDecember20100042-1.jpg
Just need to finish the last patch panel at the bottom of the flare and fill all the clykos holes.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/ShopPicsDecember20100052-1.jpg
Rodger was worried about this transition; he wanted to know if I wanted to push the body crease out to meet the eyebrow or have a filler panel fab'd to take up the gap. I voted filler panel.

Last one until I get the inside panel shot for PCP.

Unbelievable what some people can accomplish with their hands, i mean that is a lot of kitties that guy is holding. The metal work is nice too though. I know this may be a longshot, but were you going to go back with the D90 stripe? I had a 68 with that same color scheme, green with the white D90 that my dad and I were working on and I always loved that combo. Trying to picture how you would pull the stripe of with the flares though.

I see you put slicks on the front now, but how long do you think a set of those other race rain tires would last on the street? I always thought that would be cool, but are they too soft?

So what are you gunna do now with the controversial front air dam. Looks like it falls a little short.
I have the other 50/50 air dam off my black car that I destroyed on a parking garage ramp; I'm going to modify that one and re-tool it in carbon. This white one on the car will get tooled off of and sold under the Anvil brand for stock 67/8 Camaros.
looking good. I got a question, are both the flares(front and back) the same width that your adding? Im wondering this becuase the front wheel is gonna be narrower so I wonder how it would look with a smaller flare in the front and the wider one out back? anyway, it looks killer, keep those pics coming!
They are really close in size; I want to be able to run huge front tires at a later date so I figured make room now.

I do plan to do the stripe again, but in bare carbon. I'll just use the template that Classic Industries sells and it will fall where it needs to regardless of the flares. Should still look good.

It's close. The front is still about 1-1.5 inches higher than it should be, but the front tires are tiny sidewalls. Real street tires will be taller overall.
Looks Killer Tyler!

It's only ever has the Michelin slicks on it. I don't plan to run these on the street, but I wish I could. I did a set of Hoosier slicks once on the street; 1400 miles and they were steel cords.
I wish Michelin would give an option to put that color logo on the side walls of some pilot cup street tires. I just really want the C6R Corvette look on my wheels/tires. Race cars are awesome.

Nevermind..I see now that its the same treaded tire. Are those rain slicks? Was it those that you got 1400miles or full slicks? I believe rains are way softer.

They are rain slicks indeed. These are take offs from a C6R. They are for roll around purposes only. I had Hoosier full slicks on my 92 Camaro that were 1400 miles until the rear showed steel belts across the full section width. They were awesome though. My dream tire would be Michelin Pilot Cups with the color logo on the side wall that the road race slicks come with. I'd buy the sh*t out of those tires.

Have you check for Michelin customer slicks? They look the same as Le Mans tires, but they are different compound. Here picture of them

Those are sweet, no doubt. I still wish there was an option to get the color logo on the street tires; the look of the AMLS slick with the durability of a street compound.

Tyler, what size tube did Rodger use for the chassis? Is it all DOM? If the front has to come down 1-1.5", why not set the body on the table at ride height to make sure there is enough tire clearance? Obviously there is enough with the flares, but it seems almost counterproductive to me. I'm still new to this building from almost scratch stuff though. Thanks.

It was setup at ride height when the wheel plates were installed. The slicks are shorter diameter overall than the planned street tires, so the front is drooping a bit. 1.75" with a .120 wall DOM tubing on the chassis.

The widebody is wide.
Pass flare is almost done. Needs to be trimmed up to match the width of the drivers side:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/01/9r6s0w-1.jpg
It's hard to describe what seeing it in person does. The pictures don't convey the widebody aggressiveness of the treatment very well. It's just...Dominating. Evil. It lets you know you are looking at something that would eat you if it could.

It's over a half a foot wider than factory. It's crazy. (The pass side flare still has not been trimmed here to match the drivers, so it looks big.)
