im about to get installing a set of racing seats. i dont want to use the stock lap belts but im also not to fond of just regular shoulder belts either i dont have a roll cage so how would u mount a harness and which one is the best one to go with on a street car. i like the look of the crow harnesses and they are not to pricey what is eveyrone else using

It's tricky to mount a harness without a cage, as the shoulder straps can't be more than 10-15 degrees off parallel with shoulder height to avoid spinal compression / sliding out if you actually have a situation where your belt/harness comes into play. Plus, most racing harnesses aren't DOT legal, which is a consideration if the police in your town like to issue "fix-it" tickets. :here!: :bsjerk:

I pasted some pics on proper seat belt / harness geometry at the post below that may give you some ideas.

A 3 point belt is probably safest / cheapest / easiest.

Way to be safety-conscious though, there aren't enough folks that make that part of their build.

yeah i knew it was going to be trick but i like the look of a harness is it practically impossible to get a good set if i dont have a cage. i knew it would be easier for a 3pt belt but i dont like the look of them hanging there and it would make things tough for people to get in the back seat

I was looking to do the same thing in my 67' Camaro; how to install a harness without a roll bar but it might have seemed safer didn't mean it is safer. I decided on a Morris Classic 3 point retractable and am very satisfied with the results, DOT legal too. Here's the link:

I have removed the stock seat belt anchors on my 2nd Gen Camaro and replaced them with large threaded eyes. My four point harnesses are then clamped on to the anchors. The two either side of the seat go across the lap. The two over the shoulder go down to the rear seat benl anchors. I have no rear seats anyway. Angle is about 45%. May Consider a half cage as this is a street car.
