Hey Ive searched on here and on team chevelle and Im still lacking on a tire size I can run. I came across a few early A bodies but they were running a stock or slightly lower rear suspension and I want to run way lower ~8 in to the rocker. Id like to run a 17 inch rim and I think a 285 40 17 should work but Id like to know if any of you guys have run a wider tire with a pretty low stance. BTW I have no intentions of minitubbing/narrowing the frame rails as tempting as it is, I dont have the time to do it. So please help I wanna buy some rollers and this is a sticky point.

I couldn't fit a 275 in my 65, but all of them old cars are different, you may have a little more room in there than I did.

My previous 65 fit a 255 without issue.

275 is max without a minitub, and even that will likely require some fenderlip and inner fender massaging. I'd do a lot of measuring, there are a lot of early A-bodies with the rear end slightly off center. I've had rear wheel/tire combos that fit better on one side than the other, which can be frustrating.

Since you're going to be so low, you might want to consider a 255. The fenderwells get pretty narrow up top.

I "think" I can get a 275 to fit if used on a 9" wheel, maybe a 10" on my 65. I have a 275 mounted on a 17x9 steel wheel now, and it fits under the car, even with the 4.5"BS on the wheel. There is still a bunch of room on the inside to move it in with the right BS. My car is dropped 2.5" in the rear.

unfortunately for me the supension is all fu@%ed up and I cant really get a reading as far as stock height is concerned. Thats why Im just measuring from the rocker panel in front of the rear wheel well. I have a 65 mustang in the shop that sits perfectly and its 8 inches at its rocker except for him hes running a 225 with next to nothing for backspace. So he looks like he has a wide tire until you look at the back and see that its a real pie cutter of a rear tire. I may just mini tub the car although Im scared to do it figuring that itll take forever but I may not have a choice considering I want to make 550-600 rwhp and ill need somewhat of a contact patch.
