Thinking about the CCW Classics

I'm currently planning some suspension modifications on my car that will involve new wheels. I thought this was a great chance to replace the current wheels that are screaming BMW one mile away from the car.

I was looking at the CCW classics in 10x18" all around (perhaps 10,5x18") when I suddenly realised that these wheels are actually kind of expensive and there might be other models in the same price category, doing the same job...

Sooo, if I have a budget around 2500 dollars for buying rims in the dimension above, what would you recommend?

I'll need as high backspace as possible on the front wheels (10" rim, 6-8" would be great, if it's possible) but it don't need to be a 3-piece wheel. Actually, I would prefer if it was a one piece model. Also, the wheels must stand abuse from slicks or R-tires, so skip the poser wheels... :smoke:

I like the CCW classics, but I was just curious if there were any other manufactors for the same price?

i think they dont make the classics in 18s anyway..

i was looking at those too for my track wheels but since i thought it was only 17s they wouldnt clear my brakes.

Awesome wheel for the $$ and John is great to work with to get the offset you need. I had a set of 18x10 & 18x11.5 on my Z06.

I also purchased CCW wheels after finding nothing in the price range, but that was years ago, now I hear there are other options. I liked dealing with John, he is pretty sharp, and actually built a set of wheels for my 2nd Gen Camaro after a brief discussion. I wanted the wire mesh look, he talked me out of it, said he could come up with something better for the style of car (he knows them well), so I said make them and ship them, I trusted him. Sent me the 19x13 rears with 9.625" backspacing (beautiful and still love them nearly 5 years later). A year later I ordered the fronts and they looked a little different. In between orders he changed the SP16's to SP16A's. Sent them back on his dime, he used the older code on his CC machine and sent me the matching 19x10's within a week. He worked with me on the backspacing through about 5 phone calls, which was very large for a 71 Camaro, about 7.5" on the fronts. I would do business with him again!

hey ripper those look like 3 series wheels is that right? if so, did you have to use any spacers or modify the hub at all ? are your spindels stock or do have a after market brake kit?. thanks and sorry for the invasive questioning cession, im trying to sort out my second gen. camaro (73). i realize that the subject maybe stale by now but time moves slow here in iraq. appreciate your time

Bruno: I have stock spindles, a C4 rotor and BMW 5-series (I think) 8.5x17" with ET 13. The calipers are C5 and I made the adapter myself. Hope that info helps, sorry for the late response.

Jeff: Did CCW make your wheels? I've seen pictures on them before, but really doesn't remember what they look like. Any pics?

I really really really want Ultralites in 18" or even 19", but they're slightly too pricey... :roll:

Do you mean that CCW makes custom wheels (custom center for the classics prehaps?)?

Yeah, my 19's are CCW's. 19x13's with 9.625 inches of backspacing, and 19x11's with 7.625" of backspacing. I have the Wilwood 6=piston kit for a C5 Vette, and the caliper to wheel spoke clearance is 3/16 of an inch. I will have to take pics again, but will try to post some from work tomorrow.

Look at the SP16A's on the CCW site. Mine are SP16's, slightly rounded at the ends of the spoke openings, which matches our curvy cars better IMO. John said he could reproduce mine, it's just a code change in the machine.

I think I'll have to e-mail CCW and ask around a little... The most important thing is that the wheels are available with high backspacing (classic's had 8,5 BS with 10" wheel if I remember right). I'll have to look more at their one piece wheels...

I've got to put in a vote for CCW also. John is very helpful, and for a wheel you're going to go and abuse, you can't beat the price. You can check out this video http://v8tvshow.com/content/view/337/78/ and at the end you can see the Classics going on in the front. Here are my offset's the fronts clear all suspension components. The rear's are custom, I've mini tubbed the car and cut the rear end to the length I wanted to get a deeper dish wheel.

18x9.5 with 5.25” back spacing CCW fronts Toyo RA1 (275/35/18) 25.6” tall
18X12 with 4” back spacing CCW rears Toyo RA1 (335/30/18) 25.9” tall

2genracer; Thanks for your measurements, allthough I will build my own front and rear suspension, so I'll use other back spacing#.
Do you have any pictures with both front and rear wheels mounted? Also, where did you buy your tires?

The tires came from Vilventires.com. Best price I found, but that was earlier in the year, you might be able to find them cheaper. Having problems transferring pics, I'll try and get some up tomorrow.

Yes, Fikse makes the FM5 in 18s too. If you like mesh style wheels, the FM10 is also available in 18s. PM me if you need a quote.

I cannot tell you how many times I wanted to stuff him back into that 345 as he progressed through his teenage years!!! I remember that once he was inside the tire, I started to roll it and it was hurting him, so I had to stop...Good things I didn't let go and let the tire roll out of the garage and down the driveway!

Thought I should update you guys since I bought wheels a couple of days ago.

I found used BBS 18" center bolt race wheels for a very good price (more than the CCW 18 though).

18x10,5 front and rear. :yeah:
Here's some pictures of one of the rear wheels. 3,5" lip. Front has 1,5" lip.
As you probably notice, they're not assembled...
