I went to see my car in September, he was finnishing annother car before starting back on mine. It was blasted then scotch brite sanded . After that it was primed with weld thru epoxi primer. All parts will be scotch brite sanded and primed in the same way. You can see the frame rails on the jig, and the rear going back together.
Here are somre pictures the car is a little bit further ahead than this now.

That might be the craziest think I've ever seen. The Royal Sport Camaro was in about the same shape from what I remember. I guess anything can be saved with enough time and money. God Speed man.

I don't see a VIN tag. Oh hell, I don't even see a firewall to put the VIN tag on either lol. Do you have the VIN tag? Is this car a limited model? Yenko, COPO or Nickey maybe? Just curious.
The first set of pictures you posted, I thought you were joking. I figured I would scroll down and see the rest of the car. Nope! It looks like your really going thru everything with a fine tooth comb! Just keep chipping away at that block little by little! Keep posting pictures so we can see your progress. Good luck! :jump:

Hey Mrquick I need those ATS spindles!!!
Young Gun I spent about 2 years looking for a finnished car. I live in the north east , I made 2 trips to Virginia 3 to New York and many short trips. While I was doing that a friend told me to look at his old car it was parked in 1991 and covered the keys were still in the ignition. After all those trips I went and saw the car . original except for paint SS/RS 53,000 original mile on title matching 350/300motor turbo 350trans and 4:10 12bolt rear. When I got it home I changed fluids primed oil presure and drove it for 2 yrs.I will try to post pictures of when it came home. I was going to redo it slow, I wanted a complete job. I had GM quarters 1 door skin 1 RS fender tail pan upper and lower valances. when I took it apart it needed a right and left floor. I checked around the prices were very high. one guy wanted 10000 labor to use all my parts and no where near this work. I went to see Mike we talked and I decide to use after market quarters and tail panel and roof .I sold the NOS parts to help pay for the work. The nose is all GM doors are original trunk lid is GM. I was worried about fit ,so he said that was his problem. I went to NY to see a car he did it was awsome. The owner spoke very well of him so here I am Wayne

Second I got a Moser center section for my Fab 9 it has a pro nodular case Auburn pro posi unit 3:50 pro street gears, Daytona aluminum pinion suport 31 splines and a 1350 yoke. I know I won't sleep tonight!!!!

I changed my mind and decided to go with Speed Tech lower control arms instead of the factory ones with the DSE bushings. Getting a great deal on them couldn't pass them up. The sub frame had some old damage on it so Mike fixed it . Instaed of putting it back factory he set it up for a rack . So if I decide to put one its all set. Here are a few pictures of the sub frame.

It seems to be a floating finnish date. He keeps working and I keep changing things. At the beginning of the build he asked if he could finnish Brian Halls car ,so it was put off for a little while. Soon I hope, I can't wait to see it . The last time I could get there was last September. But it will be worth the wait.

Hey Wayne,
What's the latest on your project??
Man, when your car's finished and you take your first drive it's going to feel like you're taking a test drive in a brand new car... right off the showroom floor (with about a 1,000 upgrades...) :1st:
Mike sure knows how to "document" his builds, doesn't he??? It looks like he employs someone just to take all the pictures! :)
By the way, one more question... what's that greenish/yellow color on all the panels? Is that some kind of epoxy primer or some other kind of preservative??
I'm sorry if it was described earlier and I missed it.
Motown 454
05-04-2009, 12:11 PM
Thanks Ray, I can't wait to get it back and start putting it together. I'm dieing to hear my engine run. Mike said he would post some picturs of my car . I don't like to take him away from his work for pictures.
The paint is a weld through epoxy primer. I'm not sure of the brand but Mike uses it on all his builds. Then he puts undercoating on the inside of the panels.
Wayne
Guys this is not a Epoxy primer !!!
It is a Etching/Sealer undercoating(Primer) that you can weld through , and provides excellent resistance to corrosion.
The Etching/Sealer primers we use is green. The Epoxy primer we use is black.
Thanks,
MCC

Hi Guys not much to report on the body as Mike is finnishing a car to get it out then mine is next. I'm geting anxious to get started on it.
I have been busy geting some parts . I picked up a Fast classic EFI from a member here. I would love to find an XFI to upgrade to but can't afford $1500. Unless someone has a great deal for me. I also picked up some fuel system parts ,I got a Weldon 1100 fuel pump and a couple of Aeromotive fuel filters for the EFI . I also bought some Autometer Ultralite 2 1/6" gauges for the console. I got the electric gauges for oil, water temp, and Volt. I still need the fuel level gauge 4314 and the gauge pod. Thats about it for now thanks for asking , atleast this way I get to talk about it .

I have a Victor "E" EFI intake with 42lb injectors and a Holley 1000 cfm throttle body. I also have a Fast 2000 cfm TB and world intake which I would really like to use. But I've been told it will ruin my drivability. Any thoughts from the guy that know are welcome.

Nice job Wayne, I'm impressed. You really went all out on that '69 didn't you? I thought my car had some rust problems, but I guess the east coast classics have it a lot harder than the west coasters.
I'm going to run the same fab9 in my '67. I would drive the car with the carb first and see what it's like. Since I drove mine in my camaro with the dominator on it, I wanted to switch it over to efi for my driving style. Everybody's different though. Good luck with it, it looks like an awesome build to me:firefire:

I was running a 4" Goodmark cowl induction hood on mine because I couldn't find a drop base for the dominator when I still had my Motown. I had a 2"X12" K&N with the "extreme" air filter top, or at least I think that's what it was called. It was the filter top that has a filter element in it.
I bought the 2" hood, installed it, went to close it, and it was less than an inch away from completely latching. I think I had the 1" spacer plate between the intake manifold and carb when I test fit the 2", so If I wouldn't have needed it for the pcv, it would have fit.
Long story short, buy a drop base, and you'll be fine!:twothumbs

I agree its tuff. When I started my project I was working 6-7 days a week, sometimes 20 hour days three times a week. It was crazy but my wife agreed to let me keep all the extra after the bills were paid. So it went fast . Now I'm retired from construction and home.
The money train has left the building!

It's nice to hear that coming from another shop. I know all about it cuz I work at a body shop out here in norcal. The nerve some people have when it comes to they're cars. Demanding that it be put ahead of everyone else that came before them.
Don't get me wrong, I understand that everybody has their own particular wants and needs. But they almost always get a little out of hand cuz they don't know the amount of work it takes to get sh*t done. Especially when they themselves have never, ever done what they're paying you to do to their car. Argh!
Got a little carried away with that :throw: oops

You are absolutely right, These cars take time to be built right. Most people who have built good cars understand that. But for every one of them, there is someone who wants it done now. As long as progress is being made and the customer can see that, then it is good. It is when it sits in a corner for years not being touched while money is paid is what aggravates most.
You build a very fine car, cant wait to see the finished project

Hi Guys its been a while sence my last update. I E mailed Mike he said the inner body has been under coated and is ready for him to weld on the sheet metal. He's going to try to get it ready for August if everything goes ok.
I made a sweet buy on E Bay today I bought a V.A. front runner for my motor. It was already a sweet deal and I used Bing.com (which is ending soon ) and got $92 back from them and $32 from E Bay cash. So that softened the blowon my wallet. I was watching it for a while but held back from buying it beacuse I still need a lot of other stuff. But it got the best of me. I always wanted one. I watched one go by on here and it killed me.
So thats the news the sports and the weather !

I picked up a deal on AAW's website in the cleearance section. I bought a DSE Optima batery hold down for $120 its the polished one. They have the brushed one for $89. Its a pretty good deal. Any body who needs one should check it out.

Looks like it's going to be a great ride, when you're done.
It will 'feel' a lot different when you get a completed chassis to work on.
The flip side, is it looks like the guys at your shop are doing a nice job.
I went through 2 body shops / welders and both of them were lousy. One lied, and the other one used 3/4" of bondo, to cover their poor welding and panel alignment.

More good news not about the car but about the garage for it.
I finally found a contractor with a pretty decent price. Told him he had the job today. Then I went to the city hall and got the building permit all in one shot. I was told it could take 2-3 weeks. The inspector stamped it while I went to the city clerk to pay for it. It took fifteen minutes for the whole deal.

During this cold crappy winter I got some good news! Its been quite a while sense my last update. This is a good one. I got some great news from Mike at MCC yesterday. The car is close to being done. He had told me he would take care of me for the extra time he took doing the car, but this is way more than I expected. The car was supposed to get the EDP stripped and epoxy primed. I didn't have the money to have Mike prep it for paint. So He's going to prep it for paint for me to make up for the extra time he's had it. When I get it back it will only need blocking and paint and the body will be done. Plus he said were square on what I owed him. I can't beleive it. He contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I needed the trans tunnel raised for the T 56. I asked him how much it would be to do it because I saw that Rich ( 67ragtp) needed the extra room.. He said he would take care of it. This will help me out so much.
Mario ( Doom on lat.g) has offered to help me out with the materials to paint the car, I don't know how to thank him. It feels like this is finnaly going to come together.
Here are some pictures of my parts.

I talked to Mike today I'm going for the car the weekend of the Aug. 27th. I'll leave Mass. on the 25th and drive through the night (15hr drive ) and get to MCC on Friday mid day. We'll either load it when I get there Friday and lock it up at MCC or on Saturday morning. After a nights sleep Fri to Sat. (like thats going to happen) we'll drive back. OH BABY I CAN'T WAIT!
I'm going to use a U Haul open trailer because I don't have access to one thats enclosed. I'm not too crazy about that. The bottom is finish painted and the center of the trailer is open to the road. I'm thinking of trying to put something across the opening to protect the bottom of the car. I was thinking maybe some plywood with 2x4"s screwed together pinching the trailer ramps. Any one have any ideas????

Hey Wayne,
I know what it is like to wait, Mike also has a 69 camaro project of mine, it’s been as long as yours has been, hope to get mine back this year end.
As the trailer being open in the center, I would inquire with the marine centers about shrink wrapping that trailer with boat shrink wrap, check EBay also, that stuff is pretty tuff.
454bug
08-12-2011, 04:47 PM
Hey Wayne,
That sounds great you are bringing the car home! I can't think of anything to cover the center of the trailer except maybe some plywood like you suggested. A buddy of mine had a open-pit trailer and he installed 2"x8" lumber in the open area to close it in. It worked well for a permanent solution. I'm sure the plywood will work fine for a temporary situation on the rental trailer.
I can't wait to see the next chapter of your project!!

Well the car is finnally home!!! I left Monday at 4:30 pm and drove 15 hours and got there Tuesday morning. We loaded the car on the trailer and put my old parts in in the interior and left it locked in Mikes shop. Got a hotel for the night and got some sleep . We got to MCC about 9am and loaded the rest of the parts in the Tahoe with the 12 bolt strapped on the trailer tongue and headed for home. We got to my house at 4 am and quietly ( atleast thats my story ) unloaded the car in the new garage. Oh how sweet it is! (in my Jackie Gleason voice!!!) I took some shot of it but I will post more later.

NOW WHAT
Payton King
09-13-2011, 12:13 PM
Two choices:
Weld to sub connectors, spot paint and use bolts to attack to sub frame.
Custom make some plates and bolt it in on both sides
I know it sucks...I feel you pain. Look at my trunk, it was suppose to go in with no trunk floor alteration.
Payton King
09-13-2011, 12:16 PM
Just looked again. Sub frame bolt does not need that nylon washer either.
Motown 454
09-13-2011, 07:51 PM
I just figured these were done already.
ummm, they couldn't connect the subframes without the subframe, just weld it up and touch up the paint
MonzaRacer
09-13-2011, 09:56 PM
Yep minimal grinding t oget clean metal, tack and weld them together and let it roll. Looks like they weld to end of sub then reach each side of connector so its minimal touch up and simple line up and weld. Looks good though.

It will get done , when I saw it I had a melt down because I was expecting them to be done. Mike got intouch with me and said he left them off so the cross member would be easier to fit in if I had to drop the rear of the sub.

I cleaned up the parking brake pedal assembly last night. I used Safest Rust Remover, I soaked it over night and just rinsed with water and dried it. It came out pretty good. I'm going to coat it with satin clear and satin black. Thats the original paint on there. Let me know what you think.

Thanks every one. I haven't made much progress got a 1/2" Stainless fuel line and brake lines. I just started putting them in and my back went out when I was under the car. Spent most of the last two weeks at the chiropractors getting straightened out. I've been toying with my stainless trim trying to bang out some dings.

Well here's a small overdue update. I've been tied up with the back and family stuff but I have been working on it a little.
I started putting the Dynamat in. Here are a few pictures.
I did the complete door skin and the front part of the quarter panel.

and most of the floor is done.

I put a couple of small pieces in the vent holes where the kick panel goes just to deaden the sound a little.

I finnished the 1/2" fuel line from back to front but don't have very good pictures. I'll get some better ones.

Here's what I have planned for my filters, pump and regulator. It will go at the front of the tank something like Lenie used on his car.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/12/000_0989-1.jpg
I also put in the brake line front to rear and across the front of the sub frame.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/12/000_0969-1.jpg
And I bolted up the plates for the DSE connectors so they can be welded to the sub after they are painted.

We drilled and tapped the plates plus put a nut on the back side.
