How crucial do you think a trans cooler is for the 200-4R? This summer I plan on some 200 miles trips and don't want to run into any issues... Should I run a trans cooler? TIA

So running it through the trans cooler in the radiator is not enough?

That is going to depend on your transmission / car / motor package, and also you radiator. If the car is mild or near stock and the radiator is a good alimunum unit with a good transcooler built in, your fine. If it has a big converter (small size / big stall), or the car is heavy, a nasty motor, or a stock radiator, or any combination, a cooler might be in your future.

I ran a 200 R4 in my 73 Nova for almost 8 years. Took it out to the track a couple of times. I only ran it through the radiator cooler. No problems here at all. But the radiator was a new 4 core unit.

Take that for whatever its worth.

Let's put it this way, a new transmission cooler is much less $$$ than a new transmission, right? Cheap insurance, IMO. And no I'm not just saying that so you'll buy my cooler, haha. :look:

As someone already said, heat is the number 1 killer of automatics. Go to PTSXtreme.com (200R4 shop) and read up about it. I'm running a deep pan myself, as well as PTSXtreme's aluminum radiator. I bought a cooler to use with the stock rad., but then the rad. took a dump, so I killed two birds with one stone and got the heavy duty alum. unit. I will use an auxiliary cooler when I start racing the car, but money can be spent elsewhere for now.

(PM'd you Tony_SS, btw)
