E-Brake for C6 Z06

I received my C6 Z06 brakes the other day and I am ready to install them but I am wondering what I am going to do for the E-Brake. The Goat is an automatic so my question is do I really need an E-Brake? What are you guys doing for an E-Brake setup, are you using the original setup and making a braket or are you using some thing else. If you have any pics please post them, thanks.

If you have any money into your body I would advise an Ebrake, I just bought a very nice apearing setup from KORE3. I have not installed it yet, so I can't comment on much beyond it's apearance. It was not cheap, but still less than a fender and paint.

I believe you could use the LS1 internal PB backing plates with the Z06 rotors.

Nope, to my knowledge you cannot use the LS1 rear e-brake plates inside of the C5 or C6 Rotors since they are a different size and casting on the backside of the "hat" section of the rotor.

If anyone here is familiar with Ed Miller he has a setup in the works to utilize the OEM C5 parking brake unit, facilitated by the type of bracket he is engineering which bolts right to the axle housing flange. Now of course his setup is aimed towards 2nd & 3rd Gen Camaros, and I'm not sure how far out he is on completing it but he has come up with a variety of setups including C5/C6 Hybrid, C5 Z51, Wilwoods, the CTS-V Brembo caliper amongst others from what I've seen him post on NastyZ28.

OUTSIDE of that.... you could spring for the Kore3 unit @ www.Kore3.com which is the $600.00 ballpark I think, either way just don't go the cheap-o route and skip installing an ebrake at all like a few folks seem to have done.

^^^ agree dont skip the e-brake just got my c6 zo6 brakes and will be useing the kore3 setup i know its money but is nice stuff and you may aswell do it right the first time around. its not fun taking stuff back apart when you should be driving it :geek:

Keep in mind though... don't you still have to fab up an ebrake cable to the Kore3 bracket? Or have they since come up with a out of the box type attachment/cables for it?

Honestly I might spring for those as well since they are quality pieces, depending on the timeline for Ed's brackets which I'd presume would fall into the $60-$100 range for both but theres no way to say without him stating it for us.

Clearly the Kore3 pieces probably cost about 1/3 or a 1/4 to manufactur them than what they're selling them for but of course they have to cover their R&D costs for em, I just wish they were half the price then I think EVERYONE would be buying them.

there are a few that have used the ls1 pb on this site you have to make a spacer from what i understand it's about a eigth of a inch thick to go between the housing end and the pb

1stchevy for the brake cables they do not have a set they say to use a lokar cable or somting like it. ya if the price was lower they would sell alote more but still the question is( How bad do you need it ) and with using a 6-speed i need it dont want the car to roll away lol.

I'm working a new set of backing plates to allow the stock C5 backing plate to be adapted to practically any GM rear, disc or drum, and I should have them back to me on Monday and I'll post up a link to what I get done.

On the bright side of things, the brackets and brakes WORK!!! You guys are sure to enjoy the following lot of pics. Again, the brakes are currently installed on a stock 3rd gen 10 bolt drum rear but with just a little work they'll fit up on practically any rearend with about 2.75" of offset from axle flange to axle housing flange, all I'll do is tweak the flange pattern as needed.

Just a few things to note:

1- I have a bit of tweaking with bolt lengths, spacer thicknesses, and shimming to get the parts exactly where I want them so it's not ready to offer at the moment, but at least we know it will work.
2- I almost forgot that with these axles you have to push them in, insert the C-clip, and pull them back out. I'd like the C5 backing plate to come back out closer to the rotor the thickness of a spacer washer I used but at this time, it cannot. I'll explain that later.
3- The two lower bracket mounting bolts will need to be drilled for a larger mounting bolt during actual assembly, as it will hold bolt plates to the housing flange. I'll do it for real later, just testing here.

Install the outer plate using a bolt through the old wheel cylinder hole and the two lower bolt holes. (These will be drilled for larger installation bolts). Install the inner plate using the same holes as the outer plate.

Install the C5 backing plate with the 3 mounting bolts and spacers:

Aluminum spacers will be used on the backing plates and the abutment bolts. I totally forgot about the e-brake pics...a universal cable kit should take care of it and I'll incorporate a standard GM click type cable mounting bracket on it somewhere. Also, with these brackes the caliper can also be mounted on the front of the axle...just turn the inner bracket around. As they are currently installed, the e-brake cable will pull to the front of the car. More to come, let me know your thoughts..thanks!
