I see we have a Nova thread thats about 6 pages long. How about some pictures of those Firebirds / Trans Ams.
I need some ideas for the 71 Firebird, I just picked up.
There's only one pic you need and that's of SW's 73 TA. The epitome of sweetness.
Actually Bandit, I think is his name, has a badass 77 with a IA block pontiac under the hood and TKO600 behind the engine. Car is painted like a bandit too.

Do you have any pictures of the 73 TA? Or a link to guide me there? I've only seen small pictures of Bandit's car. I hope he comes in here and posts some bigger pics.

My 68 right after purchase last fall, trying to make it presentable. Currently in a million pieces under construction. Hopefully be done this spring. Hated the color when I bought it, but now actually planning on going with the same paint scheme minus the stripes.

Bandit- PRESENT! (Well one of them anyway)
My TA is an '80 SE w/ big block Chevy and TKO tranny, were you talking about mine or a different car that's a '77? 'Cause mine isn't even painted like a bandit TA right now, it's just black. I am not too worried about keeping originality, in fact if I keep it up I'm going to have to name it something else 'cause it won't look anything like the Smokey and the Bandit car!
Hey check it out though guys, I have updated my garage with all full size pics. Also, I have a butt ton of pics, including some tech info, at my 2 sites so check 'em out! I am not able to post my pics directly on this post like the dude above me, due to a serious technological impairment from which I have suffered for years. (If anyone can tell me how to link my cardomain site to here, shoot me a PM or something and I'd appreciate it.)

I also want everyone's honest opinion about my rim choice--a little radical for this car I realize, 18" Boyd Coddington Junkyard Dogs. I like 'em more and more every day, especially in the twisties! Just want to know how you think they look. So sign my guestbook(s) or shoot me an email or whatever.
Peace!

Here is mine. It is a 98 WS6 Formula with 10,800 original miles on it. 520 HP, with full handling suspension upgrades, and 12-bolt rearend with 4.10 gears. It went 11.6 in the 1/4 on motor. I'm currently building a forged 348ci setup and Procharger D1SC for it, looking for 750 HP soon...

WhiteG240 - You are correct on the paint, stock color resprayed in 1993.
And yes she is not a formula , just a formula hood.
When I purchased the car she had a cowlmaro hood and i thought the formula hood looks more correct.
Since the purchase , Ive also swapped the seats, installed a new Tomahawk intake, Mark VIII Ele. Fan , New Wheels/ Tires, and all kinds of other little detail and minor changes to make her mine.

Thanks, it has a 400 with a richmond 4-speed the interior is new but it's needs some paint and bodywork. I just bought it about 2 months ago and I put the wheels on and cut the front springs a little, it has 17x7 front and 17x8 rear american racing hopsters but I really wish I would have went with a 9.5 for the rears. The cars runs and drives great except now I have to replace some bearings in the rear end due to a noise that developed a few weeks ago but it's a project.
Yo Charlie, that's gonna kill your aerodynamics man! :)
Love those SD's! Such a bitchin motor.
BTW, i didn't even KNOW that they made a Vert 69 T/A!!
Yep only a handful are verts. 7 or 8 I want to say.

Jeremy,
I know you've probably listed this before, but what springs are you running on your car (brand name, e.g. Hotchkis, etc., drop, and rate).
Also what size tires are you running?
Your car has a great stance.
Jeremy
01-21-2007, 05:44 PM
In the pics I was running factory ws6 springs up front that I am pretty sure had set a long time ago. The top of the front fender arch at that time was 27 inches. The rears are 4 leaf ws6 springs.
Now I am running VBP setup up front and will be duplicating the ride height when the new shocks and a arms come in. Right now I am 3/8 higher on the front to give the shocks more room before they bottom out.
The tires are 275/40/17 goodyears front and rear. The wheels are 8.5 wide and no rubbing whatsoever.

Also, replaced non power 9.5 in drums with Baer 12 in rotors all around. It's better now.

Roadrage, I'd love to see more pics of your car. I just have no idea how to help you with the pictures. I am picture attachment dumb which is why I do not have a PTgarage at all.
Gents my 20-year-and-counting 'Bird. At least it looks better than when I delivered pizzas with it. Got it as a numbers matching 326 2bbl, 2speed , 2.56 non-posi, in college "fixed" it to a 400, turbo 350 and 3.55 posi- could I have kept those stock parts? no way.
Also, replaced non power 9.5 in drums with Baer 12 in rotors all around. It's better now.
Thinking about BMW convertable seats with the shoulder belt built in...

Thanks again guys. We painted the tailpanel and dash with the same formula, but darkened it slightly by increasing the black 200%. It's very subtle. We think the color fits a musclecar nicely and with the highly polished ss trim it pops. We won't even have a pinstripe. It's not needed.

What was wrong with the Yellow Bird? How come you tore that one apart? It looks good to me... :)
I found his home page in the project updates section and he stated that the yellow one has serious rust and previous body repair issues.
steve g
07-26-2007, 03:49 PM
Yes. The yellow bird has serious rust issues. Both inner and outer rockers rusted through. Needs both rear quarters, inner and outer wheel wells, front floor pans, trunk. It will be available if anyone is interested in a project needing some serious work. I'll attach the subframe from the red bird along with the engine and tranny from the red one and see if I can sell it as a project. The red bird has a 350 / 350 in it with a 4bbl intake and quadrajet. It was rebuilt not too long ago and looks really nice, but it has some valve problems. Whoever rebuilt it put too stiff of valve springs in it and a few of the pressed in rocker studs are pulling out. I have another set of small valve heads with new valves that I will probably put on it.

Is that really a 326? I've always wondered if the Kaufmann heads fit a 326/350. I figured with 1.66 valves and a not too crazy camshaft they probably would. For Edelbrocks and more than .5" lift you need to notch the bore.

You can see straight down the center of the pipes but they have baffles in them. Nice sound, low rumble around town. Since they point away they're not loud in the car but they set off car alarms in the city and parking garages even if you're easy on the gas. I got tired of the tape #'s at HPDE and open track events looking crappy in pics so I had the stickers made up with the old school Trans Am look. They're made with special easy to peel sticky stuff so I can remeve them when I want and cost 45 bucks a set from a printing shop so they're disposable sort of. I'll keep them on till the XV Motorsports event at Pocono then take them off for a while.

Thanks guys! Here's another pic that shows a couple of the mods I'm currently working on. I replaced the headlights with halogens in a lightweight plastic "headlight" that also incorporates LED's for the park/turn signals in the bottom of the light. They're protected with stainless grills over the "headlight" so I don't have to tape them up on road courses. I installed the lights so I could use the park/turn openings in the splashpan for brake cooling ducts. I've fabbed grills to keep papers etc out from the same grill material as the radiator grills. Now I just need to finish up the ductwork and make a way to shut the ducts when I'm just driving on the street.

WhiteG240, The Richmond with 2.41's works pretty good, I'd prefer a TKO 500 with 3.08's as the TKO has the same first gear as the Richmond (3.27). So the TKO would be better off the line and better at 80 mph, 2000 rpm as opposed to the Richmond's 2500 rpms. I bought the Richmond in 1996 or 97, there wasn't much choice for manual trannys back then as there is today.

Ai..I have been feeling you pain back then...
Thanks Chris, Yes I'm located in Amsterdam and it is a Hydroboost unit. One of the best investments I made! The stopping power is unbelievable. A lot of HP & Trq is nice as long as you can stop your Bird too! An almost unpleasent happening in a traffic jam (with one of my kids onboard) made me realise that.
We're in he process of rebuilding the engine now after an oil starvation issue(engine was build by a US reputable engine builder) :(.
I see you moved to the US. Saves you a lot of shipping, VAT and import charges!
Pontiac Chris
10-06-2007, 05:39 PM
I may go with a Hydroboost down the road, the 9" dual booster works fine for now, only a couple of times I've noticed lack of vacuum and had to blip the throttle.
Yes I moved to the US in 2002, my shipping bills are WAY cheaper!
Good luck with the engine rebuild.
Chris.
Ok, that explains why the picture of the car in 95 doesn't look anything like AZ. Never mind the giant license plate sitting right there that I didn't notice.
Why Antwerpen for the body tag? Was the car sent there or was it actually built there? I know GM had some over seas assembly plants.

WS6, The picture from '95 was taken in London England, thats where I'm from, yea that license plate's pretty isn't it!
The car was originally built at the GM assembly plant in Antwerp, Belgium, as an OHC 6 Sprint 4 speed model in Alpine Blue. Most of the cars built there were equipped with small V8's or 6 cyls as Belgium had a tax on engine size back then. I spoke with Jim Mattison from Pontiac Historic Services and he had no information on the overseas built cars, only that they were partially assembled here in the US and shipped over for final assembly to avoid the tax on imported cars.
According to the records I got with the car it was imported into England in 1980, it was in Street Machine magazine in 1981 with a small block Chevy, black paint, hood scoop and graphics down the side. Then I found it in 1995 as a rusted out roller, the guy I bought it from wanted the small block in it and left the car under a tree in his backyard. Even tho it needed quarters, trunk floor, outer wheel houses, door skins, inner fenders, fenders, and hood due to rust I'd always wanted a first gen and they are hard to find in England, so I couldn't pass up the $425.00 he wanted for it.
Thanks for listening!
Chris.
Great story. Glad you saved it.

That's one lucky kid (congrats on your family addition)! I really like the white / gold wheel combo. Can't wait to see this one being built!
That white one is fantastic! The phantom grill is a great way to cover the headlights I think.
Thanks Curly and WS6.
Btw Blazed 67 I can always rework the rendering to match your build. The vert was just something I put together.

Gotta love the third gens (especially with more power under the hood). I let a GTA go several years ago and I still kick myself in the @$$ for not grabbing it :banghead: .... would have been a fun project. The body was in beautiful shape but could have used a paintjob and ran very well (newer crate engine).

To me, they look slightly too small to be 18", but I'm not really sure...

My budget bird. Not my first choice of wheels, but for $400 with new tires I couldn't pass them up since I need at least 15's for my upcoming disc conversion. Finally got it running (and stopping), and have had a blast just driving it around last few days, as crusty as it is.

well heres mine Ive owned it since I was 16, I'm 32 now its the only car I dont think I would sell, painted it 12 years ago doesnt get out much to busy chopping up other cool rides, and I think its going to be worth a fortune someday its a 78 with every option aval. 400 4 gear, ws6, deluxe interior, air, pwr windows locks. I also just bought a 79 silver ann. 400 4 gear with 20k orig. miles needs paint and a good cleaning will probably just sell it when I'm done.

Wow! Thats pretty much all I have to say. I love the first gen. birds and there are some beauties here. Iam a new member and just wanted to show off my ride. I bought her when I was 24, Iam now 45. My latest addition is a tremec 5-speed, and I am installing some custom gauges in the dash and console. I should have her back on the road next week. Just in time for cruisin, car shows and cruise nights. Out here in the northeast, it all starts soon.. thanks and enjoy.

Umbrae,,, where you at around the GTA??? Woodbridge here...
Wes,,,, we'll have to tear the tires off one of the new TA builds down at the "Run Through The Hills" in Pigeon Forge this fall as the Formula is sold to my buddy... He is a great guy and it couldn't go to a better place (I get to still use it once and a while too ;-))
Fear not though Wes,,,, there is a sister WarPath(ish) 1970 Formula slotted in the build line up that I'll share the details with you on in Pigeon Forge,,,, and trust me you're going to get "down-right plane silly" over this little project good buddy ;-)

a much easier way to post pics:
go here: http://photobucket.com/
upload your pictures
once they're uploaded, find the picture link (it'll be under the "share" section). you want the one under "Direct link".
copy the link, come back here, click on the little mountain button when you go to make a post. That'll open a little window that says "please enter the URL of your image".
paste in the link you copied into this little window.
you'll be good to go from there!
