Hi!
I have a problem with to short coilover shocks in the rear,...I think ?

I drove the car in a pothole, and the car bounced up ,and the left upper mount of the shock was ripped of.(see pic.)
I also got an oil leak.

I was thinking of putting in longer shocks ,for a longer bump-stroke ,to prevent that this wouldnīt happen again.

Are longer shocks better ?
What is the ideal shock length (coilovers) on a street/protouring-car?

I have a Ford 9" with 4-link , so I donīt mind ,making an improvement on the rear suspension , if itīs possible.

The length of the shocks are approx.14,5" (extended length)

If You look at the pic. , maybe itīs possible to use the existing , lower mounts.

Anyone had the same problem?

I would measure your shock length at ride height. Then find a shock that is compressed 1/3 of the way at this height, so that you still have 2/3 of the shocks travel for compression. If you set it up like this then you shouldn't have any problem w/ bottoming the shock out. Which sounds like what happened. As far as the ideal shock length, I don't think there is such a thing. I all depends on you available length.

Good luck and hope theis helps,
Joe

Thanks for Your answer.
These are SPAX coilovers (English made I think?),
but I think I will go for QA1 Hal Proma Star Single-adjustable ,
....or maybe KONI SPA1 (KON-802650SPA1), Double-adjustable , instead.
This car will mostly see the street.
Will any of these shocks do , do You think ?
Any other suggestions ? :hmm:

SPAX is English, what is the diameter of that shaft?
