So I just got my new electric trunk latch.It mouted up great and works well but I am going to hook it up to my keyless so I can pop it from the key fob. Thing is when I pop it I want it to open all the way up.I have a trans am wing on it springs as tight as they will go and it wont open.Has anyone put gas struts on there first gen.?how did you do it?pics?

You could use a linear actuator like a street rod.

No I dont want anymore wiring just the gas struts instead of the old springs.

Weld a tab on your trunk hinge then mount it to were the inner and outer fender well meet.

I think... You will want the struts to be pushing in a straight line parallel with the trunk flange when the lid is all the way shut so there will be no upwards pressure until the latch is released.

I think this makes sense... I have to stop posting before I finish my coffee!

just in case anyone cares I went to the parts store today and bought a strut.drilled a hole in the hinge and ran the strut towards the front of the car, drilled a hole through the pinch weld of the inner and outer wheel well and it works like a charm!

Do you have any pics? I am trying to put my trunk struts in and cannot seem to get the correct length or angle of the strut. Trunk will open partialy or wont close all the way.
