I've been researching info on upgrading the stock disc/drum set-up on a 79 G-body. The car is street only; I just want to improve the brakes along w/the rest of the drivetrain. I'm trying to keep this low-buck as well......

I want @ least 12" front rotors but the B-body 12" brake swap is too controversial in the benefits vs. issues. I've been reading posts on the 'LS1' disc swaps w/a stock (or similar) G-body spindle & it seems like the avenue I'll pursue.

Since this is a budget build, I'm using some TT2's that I already have. They fit on a stock GM 12" brake set-up currently w/o issue (12" rotor;1/2 ton GM truck caliper;18" wheel). I've seen LS1 cars on the road w/TT2's so I'm guessing the wheels will work w/the LS1 brake swap.

Is anyone using TT2's? What brake set-up do you have? Any clearance concerns I need to consider?

I had 17inch TT2's on my 68 camaro with baer 13 inch front and 12 rear with zero clearance problems.

I'm running 17" TTIIs with the Touring-Classics "Hybrid" kit (13" C4 rotor). I have ~1/8" of clearance between the wheel and the C5 caliper.

Thanks for the info. I've checked out their site but didn't see anything for G-bodies & the last time I spoke w/them @ SuperChevy (Ennis TX) a year or two ago, they weren't offering anything for a/g body cars that already came equipped w/discs.

I'll see if that's changed lately.

I pulled the wheels off of our 02 Trans Am & installed my TT2's. The front 18x8's cleared the LS1 calipers by about 7/16".

That being said, how much bigger (wider) are the C5 calipers?

Also, is there a commercially available adapter bracket for converting to the LS1/C5 parts? I know on one website I was given the contact info for an individual but he has not returned my e-mail inquiries. I could make adapter brackets but I wouldn't be confident they were 100% accurate as far as dimensions for properly locating the caliper vs. the rotor. This is one area to not be guessing IMO.
