Is it normal for the spring hit the shock body when a coilover is compressed?

No.
Are the springs 2.5" ID?
Do the lower spring seats have an inner ridge to keep the coils centered?

Yes, they are 2.5" springs and the lower spring seat has a lip that holds it centered. 200 lb spring on a shock with right at 5 inches of stroke. When the shock is compressed several inches the spring lightly contacts the side of the shock body.

I"d try flipping the coil over.
If there is much side force on the shock body, the shaft and seal can wear out faster.
It could be a bad spring, I've seen them bend to one side and rub but the better springs won't do that.

OK, I'll try flipping it over. Thanks.
