I’m doing a 4L60e in my 66 Buick behind a boost-ready 5.3. I’m hearing through some trans folks that there are two different types of 4L60e tunes based on year break? A buddy had a performabuilt trans behind a good running 5.3 in a c10 and he said the it spit 2nd gear because he had the wrong year tune in it? His was a 2005/2006 trans I think. Anyone? I’m dumb on this one!

Bill,
Are you using the GM TCM as the controller for the transmission? If you just slap a base OE tune in there the shift timing and pressures could be way off for your 66 Buick based on the weight of that car, gearing, tire size, engine power, stall speed, etc. Regardless of what tune you start with, it needs to be tuned to your car for optimum performance. Also, if the transmission has any pre-existing issues a good tune can't overcome that.

Craig the trans is a performabuilt trans and my plan is to use the Holley terminator x with their trans controller. I’m “assuming” I can tune line pressures and shift points with that. Using a 3000ish stall yank converter and no boost to get it rolling. Just trying to cover my bases before I burn it up on the first run down the street! lol Thanks for your time.

Bill,
That Terminator X will definitely let you get the tune squared away. If you need any guidance with it once you get to that point just email me [email protected] and I can give you some parameters to check to start with so you don't have any issues.

Bill,

If you need help tuning the Holley terminator X Max, don't hesitate to get in touch. I have been doing remote tuning for folks with great success.

Much thanks to both of you. I decided to go terminator because of all the parameters you can change. Seems a whole lot more versatile than a factory ecm. Now to get moving on it. Hoping for a big corona-price cut! lol

I think Holley has a sale...and free shipping...Since you're doing a Terminator X Max, I would do DBW too.

I can do either. I’ve got a 92mm from an F-body that’s dbc and a gold plate from a tbss that’s dbw. I thought I’d go dbw just to clean things up.

DBW would be my recommendation, because it adds a level of tuning capability.
