Hi All. Well, my second child turned 16 so of course we need to build him something. This one wants a real driver. Something for everyday. Starting with a 72 F-100 Short Bed. Getting a Coyote Engine, 4 Speed auto, Coil Over Front, Custom Wheels and a paint job. Don't plan to get too crazy with this one.

Thanks. This is the nicest base vehicle I've ever started a personal project on. Kinda weird to not have months of rust repair first. We're trying to have this one done by Christmas, which would make it the fastest project completion too, lol.

interesting.
What 4 speed auto are you going with, how will it bolt up to the Coyote, and is there a reason beyond budget you're going with it instead of a 5 or 6 speed auto?

It's the 4R70W. Bolts up no problem. There isn't a controller out (yet) for the 6 speed auto. Only a couple of people have made the 6 speed work and I'm not interested in adding the time and complexity to make it work.

looking forward to this; I had an '83 F-100 from my father in law when I first got married in '95. always wanted to put a 5.0/T-5 combo in there but funds wouldn't allow it at the time.

Subscribing... Keep posting up the pictures! I have a 1994 f150 lightning.. I want to do this to. I need to find a reliable shop in Maryland that knows what they are doing with IFS crown Victoria swap and how to wire up coyote engine into my truck.
What does it take to get coyote to fit in the CV IFS?

I'll know soon :). Looks like if we use the mounts off a 2011-2014 5.0 F-150 then it will bolt up. The Mustang mounts are too wide.

I like it! Ive been daydreaming for some time now about a 79 super cab 2wd with a 5.0/6r80 swap. Seems like a low mile truck take-out engine and trans with harness and everything goes for around $6k or so on ebay, which isnt bad for a pretty complete setup. Unfortunately I have way too much going on to do it, so Ill enjoy living vicariously thru you. =D

Which year Crown Vic front ends fit - I think it might be something like '05 and up, right?
Is that kit you used to tie it onto the trucks frame rails or something you came up with?

What did you end up doing for the rear lower control arm mount point? The kit doesn't show if it includes anything.

What did you end up doing for the rear lower control arm mount point? The kit doesn't show if it includes anything.
It comes with a plate that matches up with the plate on the end of the rear lower control arm. Those two pieces bolt together. Then it gets welded. We still had to box it in ourselves as it does not fit flush with the frame.
Crestronwizard
11-04-2015, 04:15 PM
The factory 5.0 pan doesn't fit so we got a 4.6 pan and added the necessary bolt holes in the front. Other than those missing, the pan is a perfect fit.

The engine looks pretty low in this picture. Would it have caused any problems to have mounted it higher to better clear the frame rails? It's looks like it will be tight to change the alternator and fit the exhaust.
Crestronwizard
11-06-2015, 04:35 PM
Good clearance for the alternator and the exhaust is good now, had to make a little room on the passenger side for the exhaust but that was only because we had boxed the frame. Funny thing is, after doing the mustang I haven't even thought anything was tight on this :).

Did the front end kit come with plans? I'm basically wondering because I've seen the install many times in different ways with trucks but no driving results after. The angle's I've seen people put them in at vary and I'd surely expect that would mess with the alignment and driving characteristics. 321 has done well with the rear setup as I've seen that in a few trucks. I just got rid of two IRS's from MkVIII's after deciding not to go that route but whish I would have kept one at least. Did you have to put the truck at ride stance and adjust the front end for angles or did they do that based on your wants for the stance?
The truck looks great and I love the motive. I'm working with my 11 year old now to build something for him and he's pumped. It's good to get them off the games and in the fields and garage. Kudo's to you.
Dave

11-08-2015, 09:40 AM
Thanks for the kind words, guys.
The kit is just for being able to bolt in the Crown Vic front. Altering the stance would come from different spindles or springs. Measure twice, cut once.
A lot of parts have arrived. Hoping to make a lot of headway this week. Deadline is Christmas.

Those are some nice hoops for the truck, what color you going to paint it?
White. No tint, pure as I can get. Toying around with the idea of some grey , light side stripes but I don't know yet

Liking this! Looks like your avoiding scope creep pretty well too.
Thanks. There is a first time for everything, lol

When I was mostly finished with the 51, one of the gentlemen stated: "the color white does nothing to help a vehicle so it better be right." That was a nice compliment and I bet we'll be saying the same thing to you when it's completed. :)

Good question. I said I wanted pure white, no pigment.
interesting.
What 4 speed auto are you going with, how will it bolt up to the Coyote, and is there a reason beyond budget you're going with it instead of a 5 or 6 speed auto?
If you study the ratios of the 4R70W vs. the 6R60 or 6R80 you see that it adds a super-short first gear, and then one additional ratio (5th gear) which falls between the 4R70W's 3rd and 4th gears. So really it is a lot of work to add one usable ratio.
The 10R80, now that literally halves the distance between all your gears. That is worth waiting for.

On where you have the air cleaner at now, are you going to build something around the filter? I live in rural Louisiana where we still have some gravel roads so I was wondering about dust in the inter fender.

I love this build. I can't believe how clean you got the engine compartment to look. I mean the whole thing is sweet, but that engine compartment blows my mind. I guess it also doesn't hurt that(imho) these 70's fords are probably the best looking trucks ever made. Keep kicking butt.

Thanks! I am very happy with how that turned out as well. I ran out of room fast underhood of the mustang and it isn't as clean as I wanted. Little more room with this one.

I agree with Bossed. Chrome bumper...at least in front. Maybe with shaved bolts. That would do it for me, and I'm not a Ford guy. lol
